Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: being an aspie is now a desirable quality on tumblr. Uh?

The most annoying thing about this trend is now if you go ANYWHERE on the internet, and put in your two cents about the topic, people just assume you're faking, or tell you to go back to Tumblr. I usually don't bring it up, but sometimes it becomes relevant in conversation - so anything you say just...

I've been told Aspergers does get worse when left untreated, and I know mine has gotten worse over the years (though I'm okay with Aspergers, so that's not a problem for me). But as a former student of depression, I would say it is that which is causing you to feel as though your life is going downh...

It is a sociopathic/psychopathic trait, and sociopathy can be derived or develop from Aspergers. Though it's a strange combo to have, as I am frequently bored (forcing me to work almost constantly on SOMETHING, and being very productive almost all the time), but I also easily become fixated on certa...

Well, you could just give them to an orphanage. I hear many sociopaths actually achieve great success. Morality can be an inconvenience, I was always fascinated by psychopaths and sociopaths. Maybe even a little jealous. They are totally immoral and totally unrepentful. They are free to do whatever...

I do that too though, is that something we all do? Like certain aspects of people's behavior I can really only comprehend in an academic sense. It seems to vary from aspie to aspie, though I know I've never felt to be of the same species as NTs. My behaviour is simulated when conducting myself amon...

Well, I've always felt a close connection with Legion from Mass Effect. Heh heh

I have hypersensitivity to taste. I typically only enjoy very bland foods, and my parents even insist I used to love every kind of food until I was three, at which point I suddenly became very different.

Not at all. Making up a false persona for dealing with the daily masses took me many years to perfect, but it's proven quite effective. As a child, watching television often allowed me to observe how humans act in certain situations, and I mimicked them accordingly. I also developed a kind of "mask"...

I compiled the best personality I could and pretended. It's extremely difficult and draining to do so, but people seem to accept it. Now I more rely on my work to represent my aptitude for a job, however.

Ah, a logical inquiry - your curiosity is understandable. Interacting on social forums was something I rarely did, though upon reviewing this site the past couple of days, I feel... at home, I guess you could say (and virtually interacting is much easier than physically). Seeing others who are like ...

Upon searching the forums, there were few regarding this topic, and were either very aged, or worded poorly so as to dissuade the simple answers the OP was seeking. Simply put: what characters in media do you find you relate to the most? They don't necessarily have to be Aspie characters. I find mys...

Honestly, I don't really feel Aspergers to be the drawback people portray it as. Granted, the condition does indeed beget a host of unique challenges, but... I kind of like it. I'm a literal genius in my field of work (3D animation), I'm not bogged down by trying to conform and understand the NT's w...

I'm the classic "no empathy/sociopathic" Aspie. For years I was convinced empathy wasn't even a real thing. I do feel sympathy, however in the sense that I can understand the feelings that another expresses towards me. I simply can't actually place myself in another's shoes and feel what they're fee...
