My 5 year old son informed me that he was going to live in our next door neighbors house when he grew up, so he could always be close to me. That's fine with me. What has made me angry lately is the fact that everyone wants to "cure" my son. I don't know how I would feel if Bubba had a more severe f...

My son will rewind a commercial over and over again on the DVR. He often answers a question we ask him with verbatim quote from a commercial. When his school was teaching fire safety and asked his class of kindergardners what they should do in case of a fire, he said You don't have to call 911 if yo...

I love your new avatar!! It is so expressive of the emotion you are feeling.

I feel your pain with the schools. Why do we have to fight so hard to get our children the education that is their right?????

Keep fighting Lady Evil!

I am neurotypical- my aspie score: 93/200, neurotypical score 143/200-not really a surprise

My husband doesn't fall into either category: aspie score: 127/200, neurotypical score 102/200.

I was actully surprised by this, I would have thought him more aspie.

I am very on board with Kris. I am very knew to AS and this website. Sometimes I need to just vent, and I may not use logical explanations of my sons behaviour, because I am caught up in the emotion of what has just happened. I have had an epiphany moment recently (most of you are probably way ahead...

I haven't read the "Explosive Child" book, but my husband and I watched the video. We still try to use collabrative problem solving as much as we remember. I think it would work better for older children (Bubba is 5) because they are a little more in tune with acceptable outcomes. Bubba still says a...

I think Smart and Strange is a great description! At least for NT parents. I think you should embrace this description.

I understand what you are saying about not wanting to label your child, but unfortunately it is a necessary evil if you want any services for your child. You really need to get your daughter evaluated. She has a right to recieve help that she is eligible for. There has been a great deal of discussio...

I agree with Blessedmom. I don't know where we fit in-I guess we just don't. The parents I have met at support groups are parents of autistic kids. We have similar problems, but definetly DIFFERENT problems. How can I vent to a mother about how many times my son asks "why" and interrupts me, when he...

Welcome to WP! It is hard on NT siblings. They don't understand how important order and routine is to an Aspie, but my younger daughter has adapted well to my son's schedule and she thrives on it as much as he does. I am sure your other children will get on board, especially as they get older and yo...

I like this thread, I keep coming back to it. Last week my kids spent a couple nights with my father and step-mother. Bubba was having a terrible week and I probably should have known better than to take him there, but he is usually "better" for them and on Friday my husband and I drove 2 hours to g...

How can an insurance "not cover" something like ASD? Contact the health Department and talk to someone in the Developmental Disabilities Administration. See if they can guide you to some services or other ways to "get a diagnosis." I agree that you need some sort of mental health counseling. Call th...

My son loves unconditionally. He is smarter than I am and he is only 5. He has a killer smile with dimples and he wears glasses. He has a great imagination, we are always blasting off in a space shuttle! He loves his baby sister and has taken care of her since she was born. He is a cuddle bug. He ne...

Fuop is Beautiful! Is it a boy or a girl, or neither? It reminds me of a girl alien because of the purple on its face. Great work! Its nice to know that learning can be fun too. I'll have to show my son the aliens you have made! He loves space stuff.
