Whelp I've been writing out a time-line of events regarding this whole mess and trying to figure out how one goes about filing a lawsuit, since I've never done that before! I'm not even sure where to take it. Latest, we filed for homeschool, which ideally worked when he was younger not so much now t... |

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you all. We'd been able to get my son into the Junior High here which was heralded as the Best for Special Education Services and Support - this year. He began late due to miss communication within the District. This time through it seemed different, there... |

You remind me of my third ex husband!
How many times have you been married?
Twice. |

It's been a long time, but just wanted to bump this thread up to ask how your son is doing now. It's almost a new semester in WA schools, which means possibly new classes. Has he gotten suspended again or has things turned around? BTW for me Alg-2 was a bad class in general. At last check my grade ... |

I know there is still a long way to go, but you have progress, and that is wonderful. We've been lucky, our school district was familiar with ASD and, while they weren't experienced with disgraphia, they worked with us to forge a really strong, positive process for helping my son learn to write. I ... |

Sorry to hear that your son got suspended. All he was trying to do was express how angry he was - and I don't doubt it! The school seems to have failed him for a caring environment and people that can help him out. How are his grades? Washington state established those new, confusing "Common C... |

I don't have any advice on navigating this kind of bureaucracy, but It hurts to hear how much your son is struggling; he reminds me so much of my younger brother, who is autistic (found out very recently, suspected for a long time). He's relatively high functioning; he's funny, and brilliant, and i... |

I know there is still a long way to go, but you have progress, and that is wonderful. If your son is disgraphic, refusal to write may be about a lot more than stubbornness; the school needs to understand that writing is often physically painful for disgraphic kids. My son's hands literally cramp wh... |

I feel like I'm trying to push an old rusty car out of a cow field after a rain storm. It's moving, SLOWLY. I have contacted several local and some national AS groups, received a few helpful links along with a couple ideas I hadn't thought of. I did discover in all the miles, the ARC is it for our a... |

You need an advocate to help you navigate the system. If he has a level 2 autism diagnosis, he may also qualify for disability services from the state in addition to the school district. It's called Regional Center in CA, not sure what the equivalent would be in WA. Did the diagnosing psychologist ... |

I don't think I can add anything on obtaining resources but, wow, it sure sounds to me like the world has been doing wrong by your unique child. I hope that having the diagnosis will help that all change, but even with the diagnosis too many people know too little. Your son's attitude that everyone... |

By Washington, I assume you mean the state and not DC. Here are some resources, I completely agree that you need an advocate - probably both a legal advocate AND someone who is in SPED or is a therapist who understands the treatment options. If you are on the spectrum yourself and feel that that is... |

I've attended 3 IEP meetings. They're like trying to comprehend Klingon. The clock is ticking, but the hands aren't moving. All the nurturing/rewarding ideas I give them are twisted into punitive. At the end of last year he was on campus from 7:30-10:30. The first few weeks of Spring he was complete... |

I feel as though I'm coming at all of this a little late in the game. My son, now 12 was diagnosed last summer with PPD-NOS , ADHD - Impulsivity. Our back story with this small town/small mind education system. He was expelled from Kindergarten, I chose to homeschool - reached more or less grade lev... |
