The NT's may not know what Asperger's Syndrome is, but they know that we are different from them. Even those of us that seem to get by in the NT world. They may not be able to quite put their finger on what it is, but they know that something is different. They may call us eccentric, odd, or weird.

I used to not swing my arms while walking. I didn't know I was supposed to. Then one day when I was twenty-six my boss very bluntly asked me about it. It made me embarrassed. I began to consciously make the effort to swing my arms when I walk. I've been doing that for 17 years now. Often, I even do ...

I do not have a consistent perception of time. Sometimes it feels as if a hole has opened beneath my feet and I am falling through time. All of my days run together. I remember events but do not know if they happened days, weeks, or months ago. I cannot keep birthdays straight and holidays sneak up ...

I understand that. It is when I am around other people that I notice how different I am, and that makes me feel lonely too.

Maybe it's just because it is change. I have a lot of trouble with change. When I think things are one way and then things change to a different way, I have a lot of trouble with that. Not about the qualities of the thing that changed, but that a change happened at all.

I do this as well. I can get so focused on what ever it is I'm stuck on, that I go over it over and over. I have trouble getting to sleep, or concentrating at work, or dealing with other people. For me, it usually has to run its course and will go away eventually on its own over time.

I had a similar situation over the summer that actually prompted me to get a diagnosis. I had applied for a job as an Oracle PL/SQL developer at a major university. The first interview as a formal group interview where several people were asking me job related questions. It went really well because ...

Thank you. I wanted to know if it was just me. The literature says that physical clumsiness is one of the traits. However, a read through the older posts shows that this aspect is not discussed very much. I was curious if it was rare or if my experience was somewhat normal for someone on the spectru...

I don't do sports. I don't do anything extreme. I live in fear of the next time that I trip over something. Over the course of my life I have had many injuries. I have had: three concussions, Broken all of my front teeth, multiple rib fractures on different occasions, Torn the cartilage around my st...

Kiprobalhato To this day I am not sure why they thought my "S" sounds were incorrect. I guess I must have had a lisp of some sort, but I did not perceive it at the time. I remember being upset at the injustice. The speech lady told me that my teeth had to be together to do it right. I eventually beg...

I am married to an NT woman. It takes me a long time to get comfortable enough with a new person just to be friends, let alone date. When my wife and I first started dating, I was terrified. When I have anxiety about a thing, I deal with it by learning as much as I can about it. Over the years I hav...

When I was a child in elementary school I had to go to speech therapy because I had trouble pronouncing "S" sounds. Now, as an adult, when I am having a lot of anxiety or panic attacks I tend to stutter a bit or have trouble finding the right word.

The MRI was to rule out a physical cause of chronic headaches. The headaches were later determined to be due to anxiety related stress. I have a lot of that. I have mixed feelings about the diagnosis. In some ways I am relieved. In some ways I am upset because I have had dealings with mental health ...

I'm 43, married to a beautiful NT woman. We both brought kids in to a blended family. Hence the name I picked. Six months ago, my wife and I were researching mental health topics in an effort to help my eldest daughter who suffers from severe OCD, when she happened upon a book about Aspergers. As sh...

Yes. I have trained myself over the course of many years to interact with NT people. I have read many books on sociology, psychology, relationships, communication, and especially, body language. None of it comes naturally to me, but I have found some success. I am married to a wonderful NT woman who...
