You know that is so true about some NT kids being able to do things that perhaps someone with Aspergers would be challenged with. Actually one time my son got dehydrated because he wouldn't even get himself a drink of water. That is how bad it got at one time. Now he makes sure he drinks enough dail...

Thank you all for your feedback and welcome anymore pointers or resources in teaching an Asperger teen living skills. But for one thing, I have started out slowly here after a long talk with my son and things are going slowly but surely. I will keep with my intuition of right and wrong, keep my comp...

My son made a sandwich himself yesterday. Today I asked him if he wanted to learn how to make pancakes and he said yes and did a fine job of making them. I am so grateful he is trying. I made sure I told him how well he was doing. Plus he even took an hour walk himself. I will keep acknowledging the...

I actually have found help from another therapist who is working on getting the right kind of help for my son. She is really good at checking out resources in our town. I am low-income, but we still can find help available. But I totally agree with your previous post. It does help to hear some commo...

Since I am 49 years old, I know the "blame the parents" thing is not the way to go. I have heard all through the years how we are not supposed to blame stuff on our parents. I mean they did the best they could with what they had. (I am not talking about real abusive parents here, but even at that, a...

My sons therapist was chosen by a previous therapist we had that I really liked lots. I guess there is just something that I am not learning from this therapist. I have learned more in this one and a half days on this site. I am glad I found this site. I just need to have support as a parent of a so...

My son seems to be in the grips of his Aspergers. His special interest is computers. He spends all day on them and very rarely will take a break. And many times I have encouraged him to make himself some cereal or a sandwich, but he will say "okay" but never do it. So if I leave for a bit and come b...

I think step by step is the best way to go, too. Thank you for your feedback.

I have to share this because I need feedback. Today I was told that I was being codependent with my son when I met his therapist for the first time today. She then said I just need to stop doing stuff for my son and let him fend for himself since he is 18. I do not agree with this. He is 18, but the...

What is reasonable to expect from an asperger teen age 18 with a high IQ? My son can fix any computer problem but it is very difficult for him to do basic living skills tasks: cooking, cleaning, etc. How much would one accept as just part of Asperger's and then how much would one want to take baby s...
