This may sound like odd advice, but I suggest you stop trying to get a girlfriend and instead focus on making yourself happy. I have had the mindset before that not having a girlfriend is a huge problem. This made me sad and made interactions with women even more awkward. Then I stopped caring about getting a girlfriend . Instead I focused on having conversations with people(and yes believe it or not women are people too)....

I honestly wouldn't know if a girl liked me(in a romantic sense) to begin with. I don't think there is a problem being direct with your responses to questions. If anyone asks you questions they are just interested in getting to know you. I think maybe if you are interested in them(even as a friend) ...
