Asperger's is just a subset of autism in my book. So all Aspies are Auties. I've heard "Spectrumite" thrown around. Maybe we need new nicknames. Suggestions? |

I think I see what you're saying, and I believe the "Aspie" thing is in having a certain number of the tendencies, not in the intensity of the tendencies you have. /m |

I don't like to to be lumped in with anyone. But I see what you're saying. When I attended a meeting with other people on the spectrum, I felt a terrible guilt because I seemed to be doing so much "better" than many in the bunch. Really, just my perspective, though. Who am I to judge? But I have no ... |

Alternates randomly, though I picked up clockwise first. That's wild. I guess the best answer would be "both clockwise and counterclockwise, since they project the same image." I'd be more interested to know which direction people saw first. /m |

Try playing the job market. If you're like me, you have a hard time actually asking for things like raises and promotions. Often, if you don't ask, you don't get, and knowing what else is out there and what compensation you would receive elsewhere could help you in raising these issues with superior... |

First of all, congrats on your minesweeping. =) You're being overcritical of yourself. Academic success has very little to do with intelligence (though you seem quite intelligent) and a great deal to do with focus and perseverance. People admire your drive/passion, and that's why they respect you. Y... |

I'm guessing it's less of a "head vs. body" then "mental vs. physical." It sounds like your meltdowns are caused by some sort of sensory issues regarding your nervous system, sort of an internal version of what I experience when a motorcycle drives by with loud pipes. I don't see much difference bet... |

I ... was something of a king-figure to the geek population This turn of phrase alone makes me say there's a good chance. =) Given what you've written, you certainly seem to have some of the more Asperger-like (Aspergerish?) qualities of the spectrum. You could probably get a diagnosis from an MD. ... |

At the risk of evoking horrid cliche, if you can't forgive, forget. If I remain angry at those that harassed me I remain a victim, and it only hurts me. They're probably not thinking about you at all. Why give them the honor of your precious brain cycles? (Easier said then done, I know from experien... |

I've read lots of good ideas on these boards over the previous months. I think they almost break down categorically: 1. Mental distraction - a mantra, an iPod, meditation, reading something short like a poem or a short story. I find Joyce's Dubliners to be good. 2. Physical distraction - some people... |

I think that stagefright operates independently of spectrum status. I've been told that I'm actually quite good at public speaking. It's not really an interaction...it's delivering a monologue to the opposite wall. I was told to occasionally make eye contact with random audience members, and THIS ca... |

I used to worry about not making eye contact often enough, but now i think that people don't actually maintain eye contact as thoroughly as I once assumed. You can drift in and out of it and even use it to add a "bullet" to a statement your making, kind of like a subtle verbal exclamation point. Edi... |
