A couple of people I know did an experiment for a few months. We all made an effort to "dress up" when we went out shopping or for various services to see if it made a difference. Dress up meant wearing expensive clothing, properly accessorized and more formal or professional than typical ... |

I use Giovanni products. Target now has this brand, our local health food store carries them. Have used the "Say Yes To" brand shampoos. They work ok, I like Giovanni better. |

Those that took lower class loads. Were you able to take enough credits to still be qualified for financial aid? IIRC there is a minimum amount of "time" you have to be taking classes to apply for student loans or grants in the US. I think it used to be 3/4 time based on what they consider... |

Yes and no. Obvious expressions are fairly easy to catch. Part of the problem is if someone flashes some sort of facial change but I am not looking at their face when they do it I would miss it. I hate looking non stop in someone's face, I feel like I am being a creep and actually can concentrate be... |

The teenager has been doing school at home for the last few years and should be in the last 1.5 years of school (in traditional class terms) by fall. We have had a relaxed structure. She picks subjects but we do this based off of a standard school curriculum. Her choice to do one class subject at a ... |

Both of our kids (one nearly 18 and the other 25) have Asperger's. Both struggle with executive function issues and some of the usual Asperger's type challenges. There has been little to no available help. We were able to get some special ed services for the older one thanks to someone in the school... |

The oldest who is now 25 has been diagnosed with both. I do think part of what made them diagnose him with ADHD when he was young was actually his inability to deal with all the chaos in the classroom. His reactions were more OMG make it stop than actually being hyper. He did much better once they h... |

I have done all the typical goalposts of being a responsible adult yet most of my family (siblings, parents) treat me like an incapable child (unless there is something they don't want to do, then it is totally ok to pawn it off on me). The two times in my life that I stopped having anything to do w... |

My 20's as far as life events was horrible. But it still "felt" better than my teens. I think the big factor was that I had some say in my life in my 20's and had very little say in what happened to me as a teen. Being much older now, the things people are told the have to do in their 20's... |

I used to have to wear makeup for work. When I quit working in an office I didn't wear make up except in rare situations for a long time. What I wear now I do more to deal with unpleasant side effects of age and health problems. Bare minerals, Urban decay and Origins are what most of my current stas... |

I worked as a costume designer for a while. I try to break down outfits or what goes with what backwards. IE: this is the "costume" for this role (job seeker, manager, going to the grocery store) then I try to put it together by assembling the pieces. There is a bit of a science to it that... |

May I ask how old your child is? Also, what is your assessment of where s/he lies on the spectrum? She is 17 and considered high functioning. Much of her problems have to do with executive functioning and environmental triggers and over-stimulation. She is on track to finish school in about 1.5 yea... |

Has anyone had any experience with Applied Behavioral Therapy? There is one place in the region here that does this as an Asperger's or Autism therapy. Does it have a decent success rate? Have people found it actually helpful? Is it significantly different than other behavioral therapy? The one prov... |

The retail clothing industry has changed over the last decade or so. In trying to squeeze out more profits things like sizing consistency was tossed out. This is why you can pick up two size 12 off the same rack of an identical item and have them be two different actual sizes. There is also no longe... |

At least with the daughter's issue there may be a seasonal component. She has some problems in the summer but less so than in the winter. |

Some things I found that helped. Not letting other people have space in your head and not letting other people's opinion of you matter so much. I made an effort to cut as many unpleasant, stressful things out of my life that I could. When I dissected this I realized many of these things that stresse... |
