I was raised in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia where they speak very Southern but very fast; I spoke even faster, but without the drawl, so people naturally assumed I came from elsewhere...probably Mars.* By the way, this might be of interest: Fannish Accent *Oh, my mind is all over the place ...

Some have said it relates to the ability to act on unexpected events, and go back to what you were doing. That can slow you down as you may have to start over more frequently. And that CAN lead to being disorganized. Steve Okay, a "Me, too!" post, but that is probably my MAJOR life problem at the m...

I find open-ended questions extremely frustrating since my first thought is "What are you actually asking?" This is a holdover from when I was younger and supposedly open-ended questions usually masked some hidden agenda. These days, and especially with my therapist, I tend to shoot back with "You'r...

I loved building things. Tinkertoys were my absolute favorite (I had some Legos, but my father used to joke that I could have more Legos or a college education...wish I'd opted for the Legos). Building blocks were great, too. Shoot, I'd build things with dominoes if I had nothing else. I had large n...

For what it's worth, I didn't learn to ride a bike until I was well into my teens--it required a degree of balance and coordination I didn't develop until then. I loathe driving for a complex series of reasons I won't bore anyone with, but I do it out of necessity. On the other hand, I'd rather driv...

I did it a lot as a child especially when excited, much to the concern of my parents who constantly tried to break me of the habit, even taking me to several doctors to see what on earth was wrong with my legs. I wound up briefly wearing braces in bed at night for some unknown reason until I learned...

There was a time I used to say "It's not nice to make fun of people who have access to chemicals and know how to use them." These days I just ignore them and walk away, which is a lot easier as an adult than it was for me as a kid.

I was one of those kids who was reading before he started school. I even remember the first book I could read by myself-- You Will Go To the Moon . Reading was how I shut out the rest of the world and minimized my interactions with other people. Reading also allowed me to think about whatever I happ...

Storm sewer and heating grates...actually, walking over any grated surface terrified me. In my mind floors were not meant to be see-through and if they were, couldn't be trusted. Heating grates were especially scary in that I could see down them for some distance, but not enough to determine that th...

This is pretty much my baseline expression.

I love(d) Invader Zim!

"Gir, what did you do to the telescope?"

"Nothing."

"Something is broken and it's not your fault?"

"I know; I'm scared, too!"

Now, let's all sing the "Doom" song!

Not a problem! Of course, we do things the old-fashioned way in these parts . . . now, where did I put my hammer and chisel?

New member approaching old fartdom--closing in on 52! Richmond! I used to work for the State Water Control Board in the marine biology department while I was in undergrad. Don't eat any fish caught from the James River. Oh, good heavens, NO! Never! Especially because I work in a pathology laboratory!
