I love singing. I am very awkward on a stage although I have gotten a little better with time. I have done some singing in church and with choral groups. My high school choral teacher gave me some of my most used tips--she taught us basic vocal technique and how to "open" the throat as in ...

BTDT, I do feel like I have put so much effort into keeping a normal life together that I do not have time to develop my talents into anything useful. This, as well as the guilt over putting my family through dealing with me, feeds the irrational worthlessness a lot. Emtsuj, I am glad it helps you t...

My social skills tend to deteriorate as I do anything for more than a month, due to stress. My life is not about learning social skills, it's about balancing stress to avoid breakdowns. Anyway I played the drums for many churches in my area, my main church had 300 in the main service each week and ...

Bumping this up--maybe I put it on at a bad time and it got buried in other threads? Anyone have any thoughts on this or other methods they have tried with any success to combat the irrational feelings of worthlessness in depression?

The ER also sent me home with Zofran which helped with the nausea enough that I could at least drink some fluids. If you end up going to the dr, i would ask for some if they don't offer it.

Yes, I think volunteering is a good thing for aspies if you are able to do the job you are volunteering for. First: it gives you something to do besides "pure socializing" if you get involved in some type of service organization. So that the focus isn't totally on your social skills, or la...

I have experienced less toleration for sensory overload as i age, too. I am 37 and i know i can't stand loud noises as well as i used to. I also can't do bright lights. I used to not mind them, but my eyes physically hurt from florescent lights and certain color combinations under certain bulbs. Not...

I have an anxiety and panic disorder with bouts of depression that seems to be more or less chronic. In the last few weeks, I have been in a downward spiral with escalating panic attacks, crying spells when i have a moment alone, and overwhelming feelings of total inferiority and worthlessness which...

I find this concept good but the actual doing of it very difficult. I am wondering if it has to do with the aspie perseverations. In my case, I was deeply hurt by someone i love very much at a time when we were both under a lot of stress. I have tried my very hardest to forget and as long as nothing...

Aww, Vegetableman, i feel your pain. I had salmonella food poisoning several years back and i was never so sick in my life. Do you have anyone with you? If you get too dehydrated, go to the dr or ER for some fluid. I ended up in the ER 3 times in 4 days for fluid with a bp of 70-80 systolic each tim...

I still don't like it, though, because it feels my opinion doesn't matter. It feels that way to me, too. Yeah, it is very condescending spoken from adult to adult. I have had that happen to me on occasion and it irritates me. I also dislike it just because I hate the sound of it too--like the audit...

I don't mind "ssshhh" if it is spoken quickly. I occasionally use it for my kids, but more often I use the word "hush." Which for some reason doesn't bother me although the "sh" sound is still there. What drives me absolutely bonkers, so that I usually walk out of earsh...

I would be of the opinion, based on studies I have seen and our family experience, that GI issues may be common to autism but not necessarily a cause. The study the OP cited stated that there were no *unique pattern of abnormal results* on multiple common GI tests. It didn't necessarily rule out tha...

I just sent you a private message but also wanted to post something here. You could try an ER department at a hospital. Call first and ask if they provide mental health crisis help. Mention that you self-injure sometimes and are having difficulty getting a handle on suicidal thoughts. Say the same ...

Just from knowing DevilKissess on WP for a little while, I would not be surprised if she was either on the BAP (shows autistic traits but not enough to qualify for autism) or qualifies as autistic in only one area. When you take the autism diagnostic tests, they ask you questions about different th...

The term "spreading awareness" tends to really annoy me. I know a lot of people mean well when they use it, but I think that it has become a cop-out for actually doing something for someone. Such as: "I shared this facebook post about awareness for puppies, cancer, red shoes, the hear...
