Is one supposed to construe tolerance in itself as a virtue? Tolerance is tolerance. Tolerance is not approval. One can understand a thing without approving of it. Many people just want to mind their own business without having to worry about every one else. Grandstanding about issues invoking toler...

We have sucky health care. Our infrastructure is really pretty good. With some faults----like everywhere has faults. In some places, it suffers from lack of maintenance. But to call it "collapsing" would be hyperbole. Quality of health care isn't really the issue. Cost is. There's plenty ...

Behavior which benefits society. It's a pretty standard term.

Obviously not standard enough is someone has to ask.

Not every layman knows psychology terms.

Equality of opportunity or equality of outcome? We aspire to equality before the law, so that each individual has an equal voice and equal rights in our system of government. Everyone has different abilities, and there is no way to guarantee equal outcomes. I recommend reading Harrison Bergeron by K...

What are you going to do, censor the media?

That's not a good idea. News is news. The more details the better. Maybe they should wait till they know there are actual charges, I'll grant you that. But I'd be terrified the instant a muzzle is put on the media.

It sounds like you want somebody to enable a morose and defeatist attitude.

Well I couldn't do it.

I would feel ashamed to try and make somebody go along with that. I would also feel ashamed to deliberately fail. Confrontation is never easy, but it is the honorable thing.

I don't think so.

But then I couldn't stand to be around the guy. Sounds like such a downer and a leech.

I did not say I ignore the diagnosis, or even that it is in doubt, merely that it is irrelevant. I think your line of questioning still echoes that. Seeing the other people at the support group constantly "stuck" in one place made me glad that I didn't really relate to anyone there. When I...

I had a great therapy session on Tuesday. The therapist pretty much backed me up on all my little theories. At this point I think my autism diagnosis is pretty much irrelevant. Maybe it always was. It helped me understand some things about my past, but as you say I've powered through the difficult s...

What flavor, excuse me, flavour kool-ade did you get?

You sure got a lot of hubris to think that in the conflict of humans vs. nature that humans can actually win.

I'm guessing it's because you're more social and empathetic in general. You're also very introspective. I haven't noticed a lot of men here with those traits as much as women. That's what I figured. I think my personality was more similar to a lot of aspie guys when I was younger but it's changed d...

I think it depends on how their conversation started. Were you already nearby, or were you passing by the conversation and stop to listen? Unless I am invited into a discussion, I simply try to ignore it. If I am passing by a conversation, I just keep walking. I figure if they think it is important ...
