Many other users here have already hit the nail on the head. Autism is very overlooked amongst minorities, including women. For the longest time, doctors thought that only boys could have Aspergers. In fact, the guy that the disorder was named after, Hans Asperger, originally claimed to have only ob... |

Never said I was looking for a good job without post-secondary education. You don't exactly need a degree to be a cashier at Walmart. |

If your coming to the United States I recommend and can say this for sure DO NOT ASK FOR AN ACCOMDATION if you do not have the paperwork to back it up meaning a diagnosis from a proper authority don't even mention it. Cause if you tell tell them your proof is a Facebook/Xanga Quiz and you know in y... |

NOPE NOPE NOPE Avoid cheapo binders at all costs . 90% of the time they are made with stiff, non-breathable fabrics not meant to be worn so tightly around the chest and often end up with the same end results as ace bandages. (Binders that are supposedly “100% cotton” are a red flag.) Look for fabric... |

......and, quite frankly, relatively prominent anxiety and depression issues. I am currently unemployed, and I've never had a job before. I need a job very soon if I am going to move out and consequentially attain some level of higher education. Naturally, this task is rather daunting. Especially fo... |

I am trying to move out of my parents' home next summer. As of the date of me making this post, it is nearly one year until next summer. However, I may or may not need to postpone my move until the fall or maybe even a little later due to possible financial difficulties. My question is, how much in ... |

I've heard this story before. Generic psychologist tells patient they don't have autism based on anecdotal evidence. Basically the good old "you don't look autistic" diagnoses. I think autism is more of a matter of neurology than psychology anyways. She's technically a neuropsychologist I... |

Can you speak to some teacher you get along with, and ask for "informal" accommodations? I had a good enough relationship with the aforementioned psychologist from the original post that I probably could have had her be able to make a few minor ones since she's employed with the school bo... |

I can relate to your posts a lot. School was like that, and I go through the same thing at work, now. I hope you get whatever help you need, but it's tough when you need some help, but not constant support. The system can kind of leave you to solve your own problems (especially if people think you'... |

What is your parents' attitude towards you and your autism? If it's positive, maybe they can take you to a clinic which specializes in autism--especially the high-functioning variety. Are you on any medications now? My mom seems to think it is highly likely. Dad is relatively indifferent and has do... |

Of course it is! Autism is part of who you are, and the more you accept it, the easier life will be. Disabled people face what many would think are surprisingly high amounts of discrimination and ignorance. I know plenty of autistic people are proud of not only their identity, but also the adversiti... |

How are you doing in school? Are your struggles primarily in the social realm? Lately I've been doing awfully in school. This is partially due to other issues that have cropped up within the past year or so, but being on the spectrum really tacks onto that. I often find myself preoccupied with sens... |

I was seeing a psychologist at school a while back for counselling. We talked about ASD and she observed many very prominent autistic traits, but insisted that I was simply neuroatypical, not autistic. I have never really heard of this happening, let alone it actually being a thing. (I realize that ... |

Don't try to force yourself into NT/heteronormative ways of living if that's not what you really want. At the end of the day, you are who you are, and nobody can really change that. Not even you. Just be yourself and do what feels best for you personally! |

The general etiquette for interacting with trans people is that if they say they're trans, assume they are trans. It is impossible for anyone other than the person in question to know who they are better than the person themself. Simply put, you can't get inside someone else's head, and you essentia... |
