Has anyone else had people get offended that you couldn't recognize them? It makes me feel terrible, becuase then they think they don't matter to me, when that's not the case at all. I go out of my way to explain that I can't recognize faces. If it's been a really major slip-up, I'll pull out a cou... |

I don't think I recognize faces. I'll recognize people by their mannerisms, body type, hair, and especially by seeing them in the context I expect to find them in. But when the coworker with the funny hair puts on a hat... he becomes a stranger. When a boss who quit the company a while ago shows up ... |

Don't take it personally. Something was clearly wrong with that person, because no appropriate person would do something like that! He probably hits lots of people and gets into trouble for it all the time. I think we are seeing more and more people go out into the world without basic manners becaus... |

This sounds like a good opportunity to educate those people about the definition and diversity of Aspergers Syndrome. |

Yeah, my first thought was, "Oh, no! Is General Autism Discussion supposed to be for the parents of autistic children? I've been posting in the wrong place!"
Your post made me think of this:

Ever since I've rediscovered my gift for writing whilst I've been off my medication, I've decided to rebrand myself as an unemployed writer. It's kind of a silly thing to describe myself as, but it's something, and it's better than just flat out saying that I'm an unemployed welfare bum. All writer... |

I'm reading Thinking in Pictures right now. I'm a very verbally-oriented person... I scored in the 99.9th percentile for Verbal on the WAIS V, and my BA is in Linguistics. However, I consider myself to be very visual. I'm great at art and crave bright, visually engaging images. I have comic books I ... |

Hi! My name's LJ, and I was diagnosed with ASD a few months ago. I'm still figuring out what it means-- both what it means as a textbook definition and what it means for me. I also have dysthymia, a constant low-level depression that has lasted about 10 years. I could ramble about my symptoms and in... |

The puzzle ribbon fits the bill perfectly. It's probably the most universally recognized symbol, and is small and easy to wear. An employee who works in the same building as me wears the puzzle ribbon sometimes. At first I thought she was just rude, but now that I know she's autistic, I'm nicer to h... |

My therapist told me to "wait for the period," but I forget or get so impulsive that I do it even as I'm yelling at myself for doing it. |
