It is interesting to know that I've seen lots of NTs complaining about social media - Facebook, to be more specific - and how they keep thinking what will other people think about their posts and photos, and how they get anxious over it etc. It is even more interesting that when I tell people I'm no...

In that case, perhaps a friendly "thank you for your consideration" email would be appropriate. Again, I'm not sure of the appropriate protocol in your country. But you could thank him or her for his/her time, and briefly remind that person of your qualifications, but in a subtle way This...

It's a bit of a paradox, but one thing that can relieve the anxiety of how the appear to other people is knowing about the spotlight effect - "the phenomenon in which people tend to believe they are noticed more than they really are" (definition by Wikipedia). People are usually too concer...

I just watched Season 5 for "Community" and will be looking for the other seasons. It's a very good show, indeed, but Abed being autistic didn't cross my mind at all. I thought his obsession with pop culture was just there to give the writers an excuse to break the fourth wall every now an...

People with Asperger often seek order and, thus, perfection, and are frequently disturbed when that state is not achieved.

I can relate to what you said, although I must say this has declined somewhat for me over the years.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: Aspergers = autism/bipolar hybrid?

While they're not the same, and it's possible to have both conditions, mood changes are not unheard for people with Aspergers. But since you describe your variations in humour in extremes (really manic vs practically catatonic), which are a hallmark of bipolar disorder, it might be worth looking int...

I'm about the same. It's been quite a while since the last meltdown, but shutdowns are still a present possibility, if a bit rare. Sensory overload, on the other hand, can happen from time to time.

When it was first suggested that I could have Asperger, I was a bit relieved. Actually getting the diagnosis produced a mixed bag of emotions. Almost as if I could forgive myself for all my faults at the same time I felt guilty for having them.

When I am not at work, generally all I think about are the systems I am constructing and how to make them better. In many ways, it’s like trying to solve a really difficult -- and sometimes impossible -- puzzle I used to do it myself with my work, to the point I started believing what I did for a j...

A most interesting question. I thought about it myself after my evaluation, and even remembered thinking while it was happening that this is going to be interpreted as a sign of autism , this won't be significant for the diagnosis etc. I wondered, after the tests were concluded, that had I possessed...

There have been studies that show what every pessimist instinctively knows - that they're more prepared to handle bad news and stressful situations than optimists, since they were already expecting things to go badly and have already made preparations accordingly. There may be indirect effects on th...

I recently went through the same thing. I wanted to be sure of the diagnosis and didn't rely much on my self-diagnosis. When I got the results, I felt a little like yourself - relieved and somewhat proud at first, but also worried about the future and with a strange feeling that I had irreparably lo...

Hello! I've been reading this forum for a while now and recently decided to register. It took me forever to decide whether or not to write this (I reminded myself of Max spending 18 hours deciding whether or not to reply to Mary's letter from Mary and Max ) but decided to participate in the forum be...
