I think I get the basic idea of what empathy is. It's that thing I feel when I can relate to someone's sadness. But at the same time if I don't understand why someone is sad and can relate to it, then I don't feel much of anything, even though their body language is telling me they're upset. So I do...

I've tried driving and admittedly, I'm terrified of it. Simply driving around a parking lot makes me feel like I'm on a roller-coaster.

I've had people tell me it becomes less scary when I get used to it, though.

Here's what I think of what you say..... You are so much further along than I am. At your age, I had no clue what was going on. Just knew that things never worked and was pretty much ostracized in one way or another. It just got more polite as people got older. And, there are some things that you d...

Fair enough. There's definitely a line between the two and I don't know quite where to draw it. I feel like the internet and books count as help in a way, since someone wrote that stuff and we're getting knowledge from them. One could also argue, though, that these things weren't written for you spe...

I used to be on Metadate CD and something else for anxiety. The pills seemed to calm me down, but I suspect they were causing some bad side effects. At the time I was on the pills, I was delusional and suffering from depression. At times I'd lie awake in bed, seeing shadows moving as if they were mo...

Welcome to WP.

I actually don't know if I'm autistic, but I have been diagnosed with ADHD. I also see we are the same age. I hope the forums help you out. :D

I've learned that often enough, people who say that actually had help of some sort...because if they could have done it on their own they would've done it before they "had no choice". If the internet counts, then I had help. I never would have learned body language and other valuable soci...

White webpages really strain my eyes. I hear light sensitivity is common in those with autism, so I'm curious why the website is so white and bright. There isn't even an official way to change to a dark theme, though I am using Stylish's Clean Dark for forum browsing. It might just be me, so I'm cur...

I certainly think that's possible. I didn't consider autism until just recently, at the age of 24, and it seems like I've had more success than others on the spectrum. This is assuming I actually have autism, of course. If I were to guess as to why this might be, I'd say it's because it's easy for s...

I had something brilliant written out the other day. Im one of those people who is just discovering who I am. At 38. I recognise now I've muddled through life somehow and things don't quite fit. I don't know why they don't fit. But the last thing I ever wanted to be is a fraud, a fake, someone pret...

I get the feeling that people around me think I'm stupid. Sometimes they literally call me stupid, while other times they'll make remarks that indicate they think I'm stupid. A nice recurring one is "That's Shiro for you," whenever I'm slow to pick up on something. They also seem genuinely...

We never met, but I hope you find a website that fits. I'm one of those you can't relate to, because I'm still figuring out if I'm autistic. I had a lot of issues when I was younger, but I've learned to cope. I really didn't have much choice. My options were either learn to blend in or rot away in m...

Oh definitely. Last year, my group of friends(about 8 people) decided they hate me. I was so stressed out it felt like I was dying, but no-one seemed to notice I was upset.

:nerdy: Having problems with getting a job and being independent is common with autism. I think it's definitely worth seeking a diagnosis. Why did you put a mad face? I didn't even notice I had. I typed this on my phone. lol I'll have to see if I can see a specialist sometime. No one knows I think I...

:x It sounds like you have a lot of traits. I don't know whether you would qualify for an actual diagnosis, but it's worth getting it checked out. The math and routine things don't disqualify you. Lots of people with autism are bad at math, and you don't have to have every symptom. Do you feel like ...
