tiny number of people who have such motives, but I suspect they are statistically insignificant in these calculations Aside from the misdiagnosis estimate, part of what makes this interesting is the perhaps counterintuitive effect on the numbers that seemingly statistically insignificant groups hav...

some of number of "true autistics" may be unquestionably autistic, i.e. for a certain subset of the autistic population the rates of misdiagnosis and self-diagnosis are effectively zero This isn't too hard to factor in. Give subgroups their own frequencies and misdiagnosis rates - of all ...

I've seen a few discussions on mis- and overdiagnosis of ASD recently. Thought it would be interesting to try quantifying it. Let the true rate of ASD be A . Of those with ASD, Sa seek diagnosis and of those Da are correctly diagnosed as having ASD. The true rate of NTism (everyone not autistic, not...

I'm capable of speaking but almost never do. I had/have a speech disorder and suspect a mild language disorder (can't think of the words for what I'm thinking) so talking can be hard work. In addition to it being difficult I have a 'classic' autistic passive/aloof social style so most of the time I'...

I've seen full on autistic rocking and hand/arm flapping. I don't do that sort of thing. I do subtler things. A lot of things I've done my whole life and never thought of as abnormal. Never thought of most of them at all. But autism's been on my mind and the more attention I pay the more I notice an...

Yeah... I mix up left/right and east/west. Not all the time, but often enough to have noticed it.

I think it's a language thing. I can take directions (tell me to go left, I go left) but can't reliably give them (if I tell you to go left, often I mean right).

It looks like a bot to me. Implementing something like a captcha or rate-limiting new threads would probably stop it.

Had a speech impediment when I was younger. Suspect also mild verbal/language processing problems. Bad at both language and speaking. Have to do presentations for school. Suck at them. Draw blanks trying to think of words, then mess up saying them. I go into them assuming they're going to be unmitig...

It's usually the subtle, subconscious things. Deliberate, conscious attempts to communicate a specific thing like nodding the head I understand. And I can usually pick up on blatant displays, like if someone is lying on the ground in the fetal position in a puddle of their own tears I can tell that ...

Does it upset you that you don't experience feelings? How do I feel about not having feelings? Upset would be the wrong word. Curious about why, and on reflection it seems to be an issue that I should try to resolve. I've had real problems with motivation in school and job. Chronic underachiever, f...

Trying to work myself out. About certain I'm autistic, but I'm emotionally under-reactive in a way not explained by autism so I suspect some sort of emotional disorder like alexithymia. Everyone's welcome to answer but I'm particularly interested to hear from people who think they're emotionally nor...

I'm in a similar situation. 30, not sure if I have it or not, alternate between thinking I do and don't. Leaning more strongly than ever towards probably I do at the moment, but wary of self-diagnosis because I'm not an expert and because having a neurological condition, by providing an excuse for b...
