Hello! I recently registered on this website months after finding it. I've browsed through a few forums once in a while, and finally decided to become a member. I also signed up because I am planning to do some research on autism. I'm planning on writing a Final Fantasy 7 fan-fiction, and my protag... |

First, THANK YOU for consulting autistic people. A huge thing in the autistic and greater disability community is the concept of "nothing about us without us." Too often people write about and speak about autistic people without ever consulting an autistic person. There are books written a... |

I don't know if I have any specific plans. My day's free on the 18th, so I guess I should think of something. I'll probably post something on my blog about it, but that's as far as I know what I'm doing at the moment. Is there any specific way you're supposed to celebrate Autistic Pride Day? I mean,... |

There's a pretty common test that's been around that supposedly measures ones ability to read emotions from the eyes. It give you a picture of only someone's eyes and asks you to pick from four options as to which emotion they're experiencing. You can take it here: http://socialintelligence.labinthe... |

Well, that's also on Father's Day, so I'll mainly be spoiling my dad to show him my love and appreciation. But I'll probably be doing it a day early this year because my mother and I are leaving on our trip to Halifax on the 18th, and will be driving most of the day, so I won't likely being... |

I read somewhere that verbal skills diminish with age in autistic people. Now, this is true of all people, but the point made is that this is greatly exacerbated in those with ASD. I've seen this seemingly confirmed by aspies in their 40s 50s and 60s who say that they have definitely had greater dif... |

Sleep difficulties, including insomnia, are very commonly associated with autism. I've been suffering with the sort of insomnia you're struggling with on and off throughout my life. Medication doesn't help me, as all it does is make you tired. It's not a problem of me being tired, it's a problem of ... |

So, I've been feeling pretty lonely lately because my last remaining friend transferred to a different university a few weeks ago. Seeing as it's hard to maintain a friendship with a person you never see, I'm looking to make a new close friend. There's someone that I've been missing who I used to be... |

When I'm driving, and occasionally other times. I tend to squint anytime I'm outside, even in low light, but I don't notice any particular discomfort. |

Mine's so mild that only people that know autistic people very well can detect it. But I call myself a "sperglord" anyway. Mine too, though I'd never say mild because that can give people the wrong impression, and my autism is pretty damn debilitating in certain less apparent ways. "... |

I find this stereotype to be super untrue. If you go into the pro cycling world you'll find tons of autistic people. I've met SO many on rides. There's even autistic pro cycling youtubers lol. But yeah we have a health/fitness subforum on WP so most of the health junkies linger there from time to t... |

That's an impressive list of accomplishments. I played basketball for two years in the past and was the third best on the team. It was a kiddie league and there were only nine of us. Have you tried kiiking? It isn't exactly physical. You won't see it much outside of Estonia and Finland either. Than... |

I tend to agree. The book that fits this category that's being promoted right now is called "Population One" or something like that. I see ads for it on Facebook all the time, and it makes me a bit sick every time I see one. The hype of "OMG kid with autism writes book about autism is... |

If by interest you mean "always walking around and never able to sit still" then yes, it's a huge interest of mine, LOL.
I'll say, that's the first I've seen walking being described as a special interest. Hope you can find someone to connect with on that point. |

Aspies aren't the most athletic group of people you'll ever run into. We aren't exactly of the "jock" type, and for the most part I think we can agree this stereotype works well. However, I break this stereotype. This has been something that's bothered me at times and made me question my d... |
