Why not talk to his parents about your missing boot to get it back. he lives with his grandparents and they don't have a clue I think they are scared of him they are in there 70's they take very good care of his physical needs but don't understand his mental needs I know I'm not explaining it well ...

You have to teach your friend about the DANGERS of what you guys do. Especially the rodeo stuff. He has to be able to be focused enough to LISTEN to you.
