Among the many facets of the pro-autism community there is the opinion that capitalism and meritocracy (the practice of giving more to people with the most qualifications) are the main problems faced by autistics, and disabled people in general. Many who support that opinion advocate a socialism pol... |

Seems vague on the important question of pro-autism vs. anti-autism. |

Reading Julia Bascom's recent blog posts, I predict that this change will cement ASAN into the role of autistic advocacy as a special case of egalitarianism, ignoring any of the non-egalitarian reasons to be pro-autism. |

While she certainly doesn't support a pro-autism point of view here, there's something interesting about how Bob and Suzanne Wright's daughter thinks they're suboptimally allocating their funds. |

Are autistic adults also crystal *children* or crystal adults? What good is there in going against a title recognized by the psychological community? Your description does not address why the autism/allism classification is any worse than the crystal child/everyone else classification. I can't see a... |

I'm hesitant to agree with any claims that presume that the media form a single unified entity. That being said, in my opinion, there is little explicit speech within any media that says or implies that difference is bad. At the same time, most characters are not portrayed with any peculiarities unl... |

I actually don't think it would be a very well-run country. Legislators need to be good at predicting how people will behave if the laws change in any way, and I think we're particularly bad at that. |

I don't know which conclusions to draw from the lawyer's assumption that it would be a good idea to mention that the client is autistic. |

I haven't finished reading it, but I remember the titular character in the chapter "The boy who loved green straws," and some other characters being impaired by autism. I think his balance of HFA/LFA representation is within reasonable range of reality. |

I'm going to approach this from a mathematician's perspective. Of all the people in the world, some have the combination of traits that the DSM-IV identifies as Asperger's, and others do not. From this perspective, the distinction definitely exists. A more challenging question is whether this distin... |

First, I love the fact that you're asking this question.
My short answer is that I would want most people to have an accurate perception of how autism is different from other neurotypes. Too many of the descriptions of autism would fit just as well as descriptions of other minority neurotypes. |

I have mixed feelings about this. I like the article, but whoever edited this article gave it the wrong title. The article has nothing to do with the letter that he wrote, and everything to do wit the existence of technology that allows non-speaking autistics to communicate through writing. The edit... |

I have so many problems with this article, I'm not sure I can list them all without forgetting a few. 1) The article suggests that romantic/sexual relationships are of the form "Man wants sex, woman may or may not be interested." 2) The article does not mention the fact that in our society... |
