I am being evaluated next week too. I am anxious, but feeling like very good things will come of it. All the best and good luck. I hope it goes well for you! And I agree. At least for me, there are too many questions that need an answer. Thank you for the good wishes and best of luck to you, too! I...

I understand that getting the diagnosis does not resolve my issues. And like I said, there are numerous other factors outside of anxiety that have pushed me towards this conclusion. I completely agree that it's not necessary or particularly even healthy to cling to a label, which is why I have tried...

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice. Next week I am to be evaluated for ASD. Bear with me on the length: After many years of being hyperfixated on trying to "figure myself out," I was ultimately introduced to Asperger's Syndrome and all the of proverbial light bulbs went off. I don't mean ...

I know this is an extremely old thread but I am working on a research project that may relate to this topic. The link no longer works. If anyone has any sources or citation they would be willing to share, please let me know!

@John 35 Alabama, that is an interesting way to think of it... I'll be sure to keep that in mind; that really the consequences might not be as horrible as expected, though I can't say a psych ward sounds too appealing! Generally, I'm only concerned about having a meltdown when other people aren't be...

My assessment only cost $580 CAD which was for 4 appointments total. I certainly couldn't afford the more extensive testing for $3000+ but I got the official diagnosis that I needed anyway. That's not bad at all! Did you do it through a larger organization or did you do it through a smaller busines...

From the replies I'm getting my impression is that it's recommended I change the situation so I'm looking into places that take insurance? I guess that kinda seems obvious but I didn't really think of it like that since I currently have specific resources being introduced to me and I was hoping to l...

Genuinely, thank you guys for the replies, but none of them answer the question. @Ichinin, that's really great that you don't have that issue. : ) But "simply not having them" really isn't something I, and I think most people, can control. Normally I'm fairly good at staying calm and takin...

I need some help understanding how others deal with the more negative traits of AS, specifically the meltdowns. I'm recently going through the whole processes of learning about AS, started speaking to a councilor, and am currently working on getting a diagnoses. Sometimes I'm still in denial about b...

U.S.A. in New Jersey (I am a resident, if that would make any difference). I've spoken to all of the University's resources. They actually have an autism program and were the ones that referred my councilor to the current place I'm looking at. Neither the university nor this current place take insur...

If this doesn't seem like the appropriate forum to put this, please let me know as I wasn't sure which topic it seemed to relate to best. I want to ask if anyone has experience paying for their evaluation/diagnosis. I posted another thread on here debating getting an evaluation and, after speaking t...

I'm excited for you! I was scheduled to have my assessment next week but my clinician cancelled and wants me to help me find a service that provides a full diagnoses. It can be frustrating and like you said, tense. I think that's good your dad knows, too. The questions might get annoying by try to r...

Sorry for the double update. Apparently I jinxed something by posting a response about my progress. When I got home from work I had a voice mail from the clinician I'm seeing... everything's been put on hold. She says after speaking with her supervisor, they feel it would be more beneficial for me t...

I thought it might be polite of me to post an update after all of the advice I received. So a lot's been going on. I've been doing a lot of personal research and private messaging, particularly I've read Temple Grandin's Thinking in Pictures , watching some very eye-opening TED talks, and just in ge...

Thank you.

I never thought of the assessment being in-depth enough to include brain scans and the like but it does make sense. During undergrad I noticed all of the research studies they sent out applications for almost always requested males (though they were for an array of subjects)... I wonder why. And I s...
