I know someone who I believe took it to help him sleep. It ended up with him doing all sorts of things in his sleep that he didn't intend or remember. Ultimately, he ended up getting in his car, in the middle of the night, and driving until he hit something that physically stopped the car. Luckily, ...

My neuropsychiatrist, who works mainly with adults on the autism spectrum, seems to be a fan of antipsychotics. When I asked him why, he mentioned that he believes they may help with some of the sensory issues, among other things. I've tried Risperidone and I find that it helps quite a bit with irri...

I was petrified of it, particularly in elementary school, because it would almost instantly bring me to the edge of having a panic attack. For years I thought I was scared of fire. Eventually, I realized I was just scared of the fire alarm, how loud and sudden it was. I still have issues with them t...

I'm not sure why but I find that I tend to be very sensitive to medications. Either they work well at a really low dose or they don't do much even at a high dose. I have severe anxiety issues. I've been taking a low dose of Buspar for a while and it does help a bit but nowhere near enough. At this d...

I found that both Risperidone and Effexor (separately) helped noticeably reduce my irritability.

I've always been a big pacer. My family has often complained that I'm making them seasick.

I think even a lot of mental health professionals don't have a good understanding of Autism. Last year I saw a psychiatrist who seemed to think I'm probably not Autistic, simply based on the fact that I got through school without being in special ed. Luckily, she was still willing to refer me somewh...

Was anyone else selectively mute as a child? I did not realise there was a term for this until recently, and just thought it was another odd quirk of mine related to ASD. After someone mentioned a friend of theirs with a child who is selectively mute, I googled it, and shortly after I realised this...

I was tired all the time when I was on Effexor (and Lexapro before that). I recently started seeing a Neuropsychiatrist (who specializes in Autism spectrum disorders) and he told me that this side effect (of SSRI's) tends to be more common in Autistic people. I don't know if you're on one but I thou...

I am not a psychologist but I do have a bachelor's in psychology. It took me five years to get a four year degree. I did encounter some difficulties along the way and realized that I probably wouldn't be continuing my education beyond that. That said, if you think you can do it, go for it! I think i...

One of my autistic family members took Lexapro (I think) for awhile and said that it made him "less autistic" and better able to tolerate other people and participate in social things. I think he also said that his thinking slowed and he no longer experienced an "explosion" of t...

I have problems with both the feel and the smell of many lotions. The best one I've used is Aveeno Eczema Therapy. It has a less bothersome feel and less noticeable smell than anything else I've tried, though it's still not perfect.

The case that immediately springs to mind happened when I was 18 (having just started college) and my parents dragged me to see this Autism/Asperger's expert. Her attitude just seemed so patronizing and I felt like she was treating me as if I were half my age (at most). I was so insulted/annoyed by ...

This is a topic that has been on my mind a lot lately. I am in the process of seeking an official diagnosis but I started to question if this might be a bad idea after the election. Since I had already been waiting months and finally had an upcoming appointment with a Neuropsychiatrist who specializ...

I have always hated being photographed. The vast majority of pictures of me, as an adult, are ones that also include cute animals. I've told friends and family that I charge to be in photos and if photos of me should appear on Facebook (or other social media) I will disown them.
