I separated out my quotes and your bolded text for ease of reading. All mistakes are mine I'm not sure if you implying or stating that individuals who are given the ASD diagnosis are "very nearly human" or "counterfeit", so I will reserve comment on that section of your self-des...

That was then this is now. That past expert opinion conventional wisdom was proven wrong provides a cautionary tale against assuming todays conventional wisdom is right. Are you suggesting that in the future ASD will lose its privilege of being a DSM diagnosis due to changes in clinical opinion? Her...

AS people are unable to perceive or convey emotion? Bizarre. OK, I'm just going to point out the irony that you seriously questioned this on the thread where the topic of discussion was the alienation of ASD condition from the things it actually represents. This is straight off of the Autism Speaks...

"Aspie" was a contraction that the Asperger community adopted back in the 90s in the early online communities - I know - I was there. We also promoted the term "neurotypical" to replace "normal" that had been used - at the same time as debunking the old Betelheim stuff...

Since you completely missed the point of my OP and decided that it was all about you, I consider this to be positive for all concerned.

Respect the expertise, take it into account but do not place blind trust in it. Refrigerator Mother was not a stereotype, it was the near universally accepted cause of Autism among the experts. This was a different time, and the means for gathering data was to simply connect the dots (i.e., make a ...

"Aspie-ish" What an infuriating term. This is a crippling disability, not some weird hobby. I don't call wheelchair-bound people "wheelies"... I hold the door open for them, and thank God I wasn't destined for this particular misery. It's recognized by the government as a disabil...

From what I read, when hiring for a position in the government, that have the choice to hire competetively (veterens get a preference here) or non-competetively (schedule A: intellectual, physical or psychiatric disabilities, AS goes here). Does anyone know if a veteren or a disabled person is most...

Hahahhahhh, oh dear oh dear oh dear! Little do you know.......I was in Texas. And not only did I easily find work despite the "cheap labor market", but I also commanded an extremely healthy fee. Because I was hardworking, reliable, friendly, discreet, trustworthy, and word of mouth on a g...

I didn't need networking skills or marketing skills to launch my house cleaning services back in 1993; I just made some flyers, put them up on noticeboards at nice markets like Wholefoods, and people started calling. I bought some supplies, got in my car and drove out to meet my first clients. It w...

Yes, 8 out of 10 businesses fail within the first couple of years, typically because the fixed expenses end up eating you alive. Or sometimes, the person ends up working such long hours, he or she is not even making minimum wage, and decides it isn't worth it. So, I kind of like the idea of startin...
