Yeah, exactly the same. One person I'm okay with, though they will tell me to speak up a fair bit but they are listening for what I say so still hear I've made a noise... Once it's a group I tend to get ignored, so either I'm being too quiet or the other people in the group are just more interesting...

Other than Gyarados in Silver I've never even encountered a shiny.
