The only places I've ever felt truly at peace are in empty, unlit auditoriums and theaters. The vastness of the space, the lack of noise, the darkness w/o any accompanying feeling of claustrophobia - it's a wonderful expeience, and one I don't get very often, for obvious reasons lmao

My stepdad makes an unbelievable amount of noise. He BANGS and SLAMS everything, he unnecessarily projects his voice (it's a very small, one-storey house, there is 0 reason to shout). He talks over dialogue in movies and tv shows, and he talks like a train with no stops (it is impossible to stop or ...

I would visit a dentist soon, if I were you.

It's not an emergency---but they might catch something before it gets really bad.

No worries, I go regularly and in fact just had a cleaning the day b4 yesterday

I've never really thought deeply about it before, but I have exceptionally sensitive teeth, to the point that I'm sometimes tormented by a glass of lukewarm water. It makes sense to me though, that sensitive teeth might tie in to a whole host of other sensory issues.

The buzzing whine of the polisher right in your ear.... stranger's fingers in your mouth.... sharp tools poking holes in your gums.... that mirror chasing your tongue around so it can pin it down....

I don't mind touching per se, but I have a lot of rules about it. I don't like touching strangers - I'll shake their hands and tolerate the uneasy feeling it gives me, but that's all. Friends and family can touch me, but they can't surprise me with it. Generally just their body language is enough wa...

I've heard the point made that the importance placed on eye contact is purely cultural, and that other societies, particularly Japan, a great deal of eye contact is considered extremely rude. It's not an innate human behavior, it's just another social ritual that we have trouble parsing

It's good to have people around so you have a multitude of opinions and viewpoints to consider. You don't have to be a social butterfly, but without some socialization, your thought patterns will tend to stagnate, or even start getting a little strange and warped.

The only answer I've ever found is to be skeptical of everything. If it requires time and/or funds from you, double down. +1 though this can be really hard to do. It's much easier and more comfortable (for me) to just provide some bit of info or a "yes" to some seemingly simple request, b...

I'm not socially anxious at all? I'm BAD at being social, I miss cues and subtleties, I can ruin any joke anybody tells by taking it too seriously, and I don't particularly enjoy talking to people, all of which might CAUSE social anxiety, but I'm pretty social anxiety isn't on the list of autistic ...

i was never physically bullied, it was more a neverending atmosphere of amused contempt. To this day, I can't form any relationships that don't have an element of condescension directed towards me, which is incredibly galling

I feel like, in my case at least, I tend to notice sounds other people subconsciously disregard rather than actually having better hearing. Like, I can tell who is where at any time and any place in the house, but I'm not hearing sounds out of the usual spectrum

My area is extremely backwards in regards to this sort of thing. I know another woman who in my inexpert opinion is pretty clearly autistic as well, but nobody (including her) would accept this unless we were more like the Rain Man example, as mentioned above
