Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: pride vs. shame in aspergers

I think the idea of it being related to diagnosis is probably part of it. I never knew I was an Aspie until an adult and at a point in my life where I accepted myself for who a I am. Then I found out, and then it was more of an explanation as opposed to a problem. I think I was one of the lucky ones...

I was recently married and we held a simple ceremony on the beach with just my husband and I with the officiant. I thought it was relaxing and refreshing compared to the uncomfortable "stage" weddings can be (I'm divorced and have done the "traditional" wedding with my first marriage, which was an u...

My wife loves the phone though - it's a nuisance for me - since she picks it up always - even when we're busy watching a film. Then have to put out movie on pause for an undetermined time - and I'm expected to sit still and wait - for 5 minutes - or for 105 minutes .... who knows how long the call ...

Overall, I despise it. I do better if I am initiating the phone call (I can prepare myself for the communication)-- I even "rehearse" the call sometimes, going over in my head possible responses to what I am saying, reviewing my replies so I feel more comfortable. All of this is draining at times, s...

I know you're not looking for validation, but DANG-- you're speaking truth! =) I'm female as well and agree with most of your points (children, relationships in general, etc). Maybe that's part of being a female Aspie-- I read somewhere that we're "the girls with a boy's brain" if you go with the st...

I feel frustrated with idle chatter, too at times-- I often force myself to "be nice" and say something short and reciprocate. I know its the game but it does feel so pointless at times. I have to answer the phone at work at times and callers always want to ask me how I am, when all I want to say is...

I don't know that my Aspie traits have increased as I've aged-- I do know that I'm more Aspie-ish if I'm stressed.

Its also kind of humbling for me, not that I think it's something to be humble about, just that it kind of gives a good perspective on the fact that we all have our limits and can benefit from the unique qualities of others. My friends also think I have a pleasantly offbeat sense of humor. Well put...

I'm glad I'm not the only one that hates this "holiday". I've gotten better with practical jokes-- I used to take them so personally and I still have to remind myself that it is meant to be "fun" (though it never feels like it though, huh?) =)

I , too, am "in the closet" so-to-speak about my Aspie-ness. There have been so many times I've wanted to scream at my bosses that I'm not just "being difficult" that there is a reason I am the way I am. Then I check myself, realize they'd never even know what I'm talking about anyway, claim I didn'...

Wearing only black if that's your style sounds like a good idea to me. I only wear flat shoes now but it's taken 63 years to snub the fashions. Could it be that accepting oneself will lead to less stress of trying to be NT? I think so-- I feel fortunate that I learned to accept myself BEFORE learni...

I put on a good NT front, too-- its like a second self and I live a dualistic life all at the same time. Don't really do the change clothes thing after work. I've finally decided that I won't buy/wear anything that makes me feel uncomfortable regardless if it is the "NT uniform" (for me, this would ...
