Well, it could be both? Many people with ASD also have social anxiety and or obsessive thoughts. But it is good that you know well enough to retreat when you become overwhelmed. And don't feel bad about fleeing; if you become overwhelmed and you have to go...then go. better that you leave so that yo... |

Its true; trying to act "normal" makes things worse. You're trying to be something you're not, and people will pick up on that.
Any weirdos around you? Might be better to try and find some misfits so you can be comfortable.
Hang in there; there are plenty of us out there. |

My formal evaluation states a score of 195, but they did not provided a breakdown. Probably because the evaluator said that I am bipolar and that the symptoms of my mood disorder display as symptoms of autism spectrum disorder and i was not diagnosed with ASD as a result but rather bipolar type I. ... |

C2V, I feel your pain. The misophonia can be especially frustrating, because no one wants to be told that they chew so loudly that it makes you see red. Even though I don't understand how you can possibly be unaware that someone can hear you chewing on the other side of the room. When people suck th... |

It is still very important to some (if not most) people. Many of my friends insisted that it made them feel more secure in their relationships. They applied a lot of pressure to their boyfriends to propose. One of my friends even broke up with her boyfriend of 5 years because he wouldn't propose. T... |

I actually don't stop liking particular foods - I stop liking all foods. I won't feel like eating at all, but eventually I get lightheaded and have to eat something. Nothing really tastes all that good to me; I just know that my day will be even harder if I don't put something in my stomach. I think... |

Hi guys, in August last year I switched to a new job and also got a new flat. Somehow that made me anxious and depressed. I felt really sh***y for a few months and finally got some therapy. It's my first time ever to have a therapist and I've been going for about 6 months now. I really like my ther... |

This is a problem for me, although less with my hands and much more with other places on my body. Sometimes when I get my hair done, the stylists try to put gel or oil on my scalp and I cannot do anything else until I wash it off. After having such horrible reactions many times (I have been going to... |

When I was in my 20s, I struggled to do short overnight trips with friends nearby (Philadelphia, etc). After a few hours away, I would so badly want to return to my nest. It used to really make my friends angry, but I stopped trying to escape and just kept a mental countdown in my mind for when I co... |

I should also add - good thread OP. I think identifying positive attributes of the neurodiverse is too rare. Hopefully more people take some time to think about what makes them great (instead of the opposite) and posts it here. |

Oh my goodness! I just wrote about this on another thread. I day dream and fantasize often. I have never really associated it with stress; I love it. I am on the train a lot for work, so I get a ton of time to let my mind wander. My friends tell me that I look like I am high when I do it, but they k... |

You can watch netflix on a TV by using chrome cast; you don't have to have a smart TV. Chrome cast adapters cost approximately $30 and I think they are pretty awesome! You just need to stream Netflix from a computer or tablet to make it work, so you have to have a fast internet connection. I think H... |

Whatever she is, I would stay away from people who intentionally upset you, especially if they do it in front of other people. Life is short, I am sure you can find other people to spend time with who won't make you cry. |

Don't know if it is an autistic trait, but because my mind is a crazy maze...I am never ever bored. I could play around in there for hours, much to the chagrin of those around me.
Oh and certainly seeing patterns and connection that others seem to miss. |
