Hi, I'm wondering whether anyone else has this problem -- I really want to have friends and interact with people, but I find it exhausting and frightening sometimes to talk to them at all, even over email or text. Like after a while, when I see I've got a text from a 'new friend' (no idea if they're...

Hi, I'm not sure whether this should be in the work forum or not but if I'm wrong please tell me. My colleagues always organise birthday meals for people having "special" birthdays, e.g. 21, 30, 40 etc. Unfortunately soon I'm having a "special" birthday so a birthday meal is bein...

People crying makes me uncomfortable too. I do feel empathy for them, but I am terrified of comforting them because people can be so unpredictable when they're upset and I don't know what would make them feel better since everyone is different and the situation is always different too.

It depends who you ask. People (especially men) often comment on my resting face and ask me why I'm not smiling, I usually get told that my resting face is angry or sad, even when I feel happy, so to be told "you look angry/sad" just makes me anxious and not happy. The answer from people w...

Thank you for your advice, I'm sorry I'm so late in replying! Yes we are renting, and it is incredibly lucky that I do get so obsessive about things I am excited about like this so I do remember details! I have a terrible memory unless it's about something I'm excited about haha. It's the staring fr...

Haha I thought of that too! My boyfriend and I are going to look for flats on weekends when most people will be home (hopefully) so we can see how noisy it would be on our weekends. That's a really useful tip, thank you :)

Thank you very much for your response, my parents have advised this too, and it comes up on google a lot. I will make very very sure that I understand the contract before signing, thank you for recommending it!

Thank you, that was an incredibly helpful reply and it's made me feel a lot better about the situation! It's good to know that people on the spectrum have the upper hand in social situations sometimes :D

I think this might be completely out of place but I don't know where else to post it, so I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for my post! I'm currently looking for a flat to move into with my boyfriend (who is also autistic) and when estate agents show us around flats, they seem to want us to say s...

It's never too late to go to school! What helped my social anxiety a bit was doing volunteer work in a charity shop, and the skills I learned from that helped me get my first job six months ago. I think you can find introverts anywhere to be honest, but if you feel you would be happier in another co...

I'm sorry you're going through this. I also find it hard to see people making friends without effort when it's such a struggle for me. In the end, I had to force myself to socialise through work. It was really, really awkward to start with and I hated it. However, after six months I've found people ...
