All this talk of "privilege" and shuffling people into little boxes with tags on them would be better spent trying to find ways to allow every individual human being to contribute in a meaningful matter informed by their wants and needs and not by how many privilege points they have. I mig...

I don't think this is because of Aspergers. It's just a difference in abilities of the kind that everybody as. That being said, a lot of people say they are "bad at math" but sometimes I wonder if they are just intimidated by it, uninterested or not taught properly. About 8 years ago I flu...

After a hiatus, I'm going back to school to learn a trade. I have thought long and hard about what kind of life I wanted during that time and I've decided that all I want to do is to do the necessary minimum to "pass". To wit, I have spent a decade trying to improve my social skills and it...

I always took loneliness as being a bad thing instead of enjoying my solitude. Loneliness seems to get portrayed as a state of despair or as something sinister in popular media. Yes, this is how popular culture portrays solitude, and there's some truth to it. To live in solitude and yet still be ha...

For an NT, I'd say maybe. For an aspie, definitely not. Think of it this way...you aren't entering in one relationship, but 3 or maybe even 4 relationships (I'm assuming not just 2 because you wrote "kids"). The truth is that it is almost inevitable that you will serve as proxy dad to thes...

I don't entirely disagree, it's possible, but very difficult and usually an exception and not the rule. I have few close friends and am not close with much family as well as having no lover but I do get by. I do feel very lonely and depressed for a good chunk of my day but for now I can tolerate it...

I don't know, but I do know there are no benefits to being profligate. I have led a sheltered life in many respects and there are many things I haven't experienced. Truth is, not everything is worth a try. People will talk about wasted opportunities, YOLO, carpe diem , etc. They'll tell you you have...

It is possible to survive alone. But it is very difficult. The hardest part is isolating yourself from all of humanity. So for most people, there's no true solitude. Only degrees of solitude. Within those degrees are levels at which people help you survive. Whether you like it or not, you WILL serv...

I have dated a bit. I've had 2 relationships, none of which lasted more than two years. I have not had a girlfriend nor had sex in 3 years. Truthfully, I don't miss any of it at all. I firmly believe that people anguishing over not finding girlfriends have a case of the "grass is greener"...

I've been having a recurring dream lately in which my mom decides that we should go on vacation. For this purpose, she rents a cabin in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe. These dreams are all about me exploring the place, coming face to face with dangerous wildlife and talking to white, fellow travelers who rent c...

I'm a theist. I believe in a higher power. I have no opinion on whether this higher power is one or many, male or female or neither or both, if it is omnipotent/scient/present or has limitations, or even whether it can communicate or do something that could approach human thought. For all I know, th...

School was awful. I went to public school. Because I was born in September, I was 4 when I started school and I was always the runt of the class. Teachers always had the same thing to say about me, year after year : very bright, but socially withdrawn. Elementary school was boring and I suffered thr...

You're justified in feeling anger, but unfortunately we are a subset (autists) of a subset (developmental disorder sufferers, or "differently abled" if this inane euphemism feels any better for you) of a subset (the generally handicapped). We can piss and moan as loud as we can but society...

Yeah, of course. It used to be real easy to make me do a lot of things. In grade 5, my parents bought me a 60-card Pokemon TGC deck. I was so happy, I brought it to school. I gave a card to a friend to be nice. Sharing is caring, I'd been told. Suddenly I had many more "friends" who all wa...
