- Have a cabin in nature I can go to and get away from everything, that I can also use as an art studio. - Have a little apartment with my boyfriend. - Have a similar style job to the one I have now, but where I'm treated better. - Or preferably to have a more creative job or to work on more creativ...

I've struggled with friends all my life, even my parents used to make me feel bad about not having any friends. But right now I feel lucky that I have probably 5 people I would call friends, which is more than enough. Most of them I made through forced circumstances (e.g. having to work together) an...

I also feel wiped out just trying to act normal with my family. When they visit they always want to go out to places that require a lot of work for me on a mental level. I put in the effort because they have traveled to see me, but I find myself feeling guilty for wanting them to leave so I can have...

I don't know how my facial expressions look, but people 'read' them wrong all the time. Like I can be feeling good and think I'm reacting positively to someone, but they think I am bored or annoyed at them. When people point it out I start getting self conscious about it and probably pull even stran...

Thank you! :) Since I realized that I exhibit a high affinity for having a spectrum disorder, I feel somewhat liberated. Moreover, I am now motivated to become stronger for my family, and also help others that face these same challenges. That's wonderful to hear! I understand that feeling of liberat...

Women are also socialized sometimes to be 'attracted' to certain things to, like they think they should be attracted to tall men or should be attracted to this or that so they portray that. But I think a lot of times when they actually fall in love they find those traits they were 'supposed' to fin...

I'm quiet and generally keep to myself. I've been at my current job a few years so I've managed to make some friends who don't seem to mind that I'm awkward and quiet, but they are mostly introverts too. Everyone else is really social, having lunch together and hanging out after work in big groups. ...

My family don't care about my interests either, so I avoid talking about them. Even though I really want to, I know that if they say something dismissive I'll take it too personally and feel hurt... so I've learned its better to only talk about my obsessions if the person shows an interest (and even...

One thing that really helped me to cope was something that I read that said you're the same person you've always been, you just now have a word to describe your behaviors and feelings. :) Welcome to the forum. That's so true, and a good thing to remember. In the last year I've become much more self...

Hello, I'm a newbie here too : ) I had the realization 2 years ago that I might be on the spectrum. Well I always suspected something was 'wrong' with me, but could never pinpoint what. I had read about autism but I always thought I can't be autistic, because I'm an adult and had coped fine for most...

I struggle with this too. If it's a friendly/patient colleague, sometimes I'm able to say 'can you just give me a second' and I try make a quick note of what I'm doing before diverting my attention, so I have something to help me get back into whatever I was doing quicker. But it depends on the task...
