There are some cases where telling people I'm close with has been mostly helpful. The ones who are very practically part of my life... Like my husband, my mom and my longtime friend and neighbour. I have told many people where I have seen no benefit. I tend to want to make reality outside match my r... |

It is a lonely road. Hope you can find peace some how. I've found most of my peace comes from a source well outside of myself. Once I found that a lot of the other stuff has slowly just sorted itself out. Really... All the best. You're welcome here as far as I'm concerned. All different thinkers her... |

When I say fake... Just want to clarify. I don't see myself as fake. I'm always genuine but in relationships I've learnt to limit my parameters dramatically to fit in with other people. It's fake in a sense... Because for me REAL friendship is Step 3 deep. So its not me acting per se or not really c... |

Well maybe it's okay not to have a label. It's what brings you peace. It can be hard to find the proper channel to be diagnosed in any case. I luckily did find someone whose opinion I could trust and others trust it too. If its hard to know just from your own analysis, it might be helpful to seek so... |

I think it is also better to take responsibility for what we do and not blame everything on this and that. Ive made a tonne of mistakes. I like to own them... BUT I also realise I am prone to make certain mistakes because I'm wired a certain way. Knowing my wiring doesn't excuse me but it does help ... |

I liked your post and related to many aspects of it. I accept what you are saying as far I understand it without knowing you in real life. Do you feel that ASD or Aspergers is a diagnosis that fits you? I wasn't sure if I could pick up whether you think it is a fit. I also went through many self-dia... |

So I have a friend. Or had one. We would still be friends except I made my fatal friendship mistake... It goes as following... 1. Enter new persons space, act friendly but totally guarded inside , observe closely, try and blend in, listen much more than talk, talk about them 2. They like me, happy t... |

Well thanks for your input. You've been around here in an active way for a long time. So I think you're giving me a good idea of what to expect in terms of meeting people from this continent. Maybe there are some lurkers. Show yourself! I've met one guy who is black who seems to be a verbal autistic... |

Yes. I'm South African. Actually I am white with Dutch, German, French, British, Spanish and Malaysian decent most of it from hundreds of years ago. I do think of myself as African because I've only ever lived here and wouldn't be able to call any of the countries my genes come from home. But probab... |

It's a bit hard to write about it in short. Thanks for asking. I can only talk about where I am and from my perspective as a minority within a minority... from another planet and a European decent African. South Africa is very complicated place to live. You are faced with pretty harsh realities wher... |

On the other hand, another friend flatly refused to even vaguely entertain it when I told her I think I may be autistic. She had worked with autistic kids and said I was nothing like them. She met me when I was 21 and didn't know me as a kid. Is this masking? Well maybe a bit. But I think it's just ... |

I think compensatory strategies and masking are more like 'getting by'. You have to do some stuff to fit into the system enough to get what you want (mostly)... But it's not like you are the master of disguise. I thought I was doing pretty well at fitting into life before my burnout and diagnosis in... |

Okay... So no one is from Africa? We're not the most hooked up on the net and tend to be pretty switched off as far as recognizing the higher end of the spectrum... So I get it. Maybe I'm the only one to find wrong planet. Anyone have any interest in Africa or a curiosity about it? (my voice echoing... |

Anyone from Africa? Interested in Africa? I am. Mixed feelings. It's very nice and gets me down sometimes too.

I find the best thing to relax me is simple. Sitting in a dark quiet room. Nothing is better. If I'm in an anxiety provoking setting... I fidget and stim naturally with whatever is at hand. Introducing these things intentionally does nothing for me. But in stressful situations it happens naturally a... |
