As a teacher, I can see why he got a warning because the teacher is doing exactly what one of you suggested, trying to get a handle on inappropriate language. But if you want to, talk to the teacher about it so that he/she has a better understanding of your kid. It is true that kids who are not as a...

Julien, your grandparents and mom sound like very accepting people. I think that many people these days may actually be like that, but I tend to just see the ones that are staring and shaking their heads. I need to remember that there are accepting people out there. Every now and then we run into th...

This is definitely a personal decision, and seems like it could go either way. For us, little sister is the greatest gift ever to her Aspie brother. Sure, they divide our attention and frequently pester each other, but our son has learned so many positive social skills from having a little sister. H...

Kim, let me add that I didn't mean to say that you shouldn't be frustrated with the teachers, the district, and the whole situation. I would be very upset if I was in that situation as a parent. But if the district isn't coming around after months of negotiation and their best proposal is less take ...

As a teacher, I've got to say that if you're not being heard or valued, you may need to do things to make a statement. It sounds like the teachers union was very upfront about what they were going to do. It was the district who dropped the ball by insisting that they had the coverage when they most ...

This is what I needed to hear today. I feel like my son and I are being judged all the time by NT parents, to the point that I think I'm getting too obsessed with it. I have to remind myself that what other people think (or what I think they think) doesn't have to have anything to do with my reality...

This thread really hit home for me. I've never been treated for depression, although I had one major period in my youth when I probably should have been treated, but somehow mucked my way through it. It has been very isolating having a child with a hidden disability. Even though his differences are ...

My son eats his peas and corn frozen and won't eat cooked food until it has cooled down. I wouldn't worry about it unless he's eating food that really needs to be cooked for health reasons.

We just pushed to get our son diagnosed, so this topic really interests me. At this point, I can't see him functioning in a mainstream classroom because his behavior is just too disruptive. But I do think that once we get that more under control, he could do fine and he's only 4, so who knows how mu...

I've been reading this site for about a week and I thought I'd introduce myself. I have a 4-year-old boy who has recently been diagnosed with Asperger's. For awhile we were unclear about whether he really had some diagnosis or if he was just going through regular 4-year-old challenges. After a very ...

Our 4-year-old used to growl, but just recently switched to spitting. We miss the growl.

By the way, I'm new here and glad to find a place where my son is understood!
