Our grandson uses melatonin without any negative side effects. I, too, thought in the beginning that it was like a sleeping pill. But, after researching it, found that our body actually makes melatonin. I would believe that it is definately safer than giving our kids pop or candy or anything that ha... |

thank you, aspie 48. Thank you for your insight. It is really appreciated - helps us understand how aspies think and react which in turn helps us think and react, as well. Our 11 yr old aspie loves coming to grandma and grandpa's because it's his quiet place. We let him line up whatever games he's c... |

Create a secret way of telling him that you love him so he won't get embarassed. Like, put the napkin in with a "star" in his lunch or do the high five means that you love him as well. That way, you can let him know that your proud of him too. Can any of us get too tired of being told we're loved? I... |

I know this probably goes without saying, but, be sure to tell your son that you love him, but, you don't like those actions. Or, just tell him you love him in the middle of the day or anytime, just because.... |

Thanks to all.....he does have an intervention plan - he goes to his time away room until he can control himself. Today, he was kept home more or less because the parents do not agree with this policy of giving Z a in-school suspension.....I, on the other hand believe that a 3 hr suspension, which s... |

Our grandson has been doing very well in school - except for the last week and a half...We can't figure out what is going on with him, but, he has started becoming aggressive and hitting. The other students' parents want to see Z punished for his behavior. The school wants to punish him with a 3-hou... |

siuan - Please don't feel like you are rambling .... That's what I really like about this website, is all the information we can get. I have almost become obsessed with trying to learn what works and what doesn't work for our grandson. So, thanks again to you and everyone else here. I found a pair o... |

We went shopping today - at Old Navy (I think we should get some kind of "kick-back" for this, it's like a commercial for them)....We let Z try on tops - they definately are soft and have that broken-in feeling. No tags! He said they felt really nice, but, that could all change the next time he wear... |

What works clothing wise? Silky material? Cotten blends? Most likely - cut out the tags. It's sad to start the day out with a clothes fight. When Z spends the night, I usually just let him stay in his pajamas, but, that doesn't always work. Sweat pants feel wrong too....and he really can't verbalize... |

One of our grandson's big issues now is his clothes....Nothing seems to feel right. And, I'm sure you all know what that leads to! He will meltdown at school and need different clothes even though when he first got dressed, all seemed ok.....we have found the seamless socks, but at times even those ... |

The card system is a great idea! I'm going to copy it and send it to my son to mention it to Z's teacher....He had another good day today! That's like 2 in a row! We needed that since last week he actually bit his aid. By the way, what is IEP? |

Actully, our school seems to be making an attempt to accommodate our grandson...the meeting is next Thursday to find out what exactly they mean as far as dropping some of his curriculum (don't know about that spelling). They may just be wanting to ease him into his classes. He has been bringing home... |

what are the benefits? My grandson is just starting to take the omegas.....I don't know if it's wishful thinking, but I thought I saw an improvement in him already. He "acted out" a meltdown....like he was joking. Then just went on him merry way.... |

Our aspie 8 yr old grandson sometimes will refuse to do his work at school. The school is now considering dropping some of his classes to make things easier for him. Does this sound like a good idea or could this be making things easier for his teacher and aid? His parents have scheduled a meeting t... |

Thanks Rachel...thanks everyone! This is such a great site...it just helps make so much sense of something NTs can't figure out. Our grandson must have the same teacher 8-) His spelling looks the same....(he is going into 2nd grade too) and it's so precious that they want to do sooo well! Last night we were reading...he struggles with each word, but he tried something on his own and it thrilled him that he was reading like ev... |
