They have problems with keeping track of numbers in their mind? I have a really hard time doing that. Also, I have terrible concentration skills, I find it really hard to focus when I'm surrounded by people. How do you cope with these problems? If you do have them. The surrounded by people thing sou...

Hormones still aren't well understood by the medical community, and their connection to psychology and neurobiology is a huge puzzle that we haven't come close to figuring out yet. I wouldn't self medicate on hormones. I started up on taking my estrogen tablets (I don't produce enough as a woman) af...

I'd add to the earlier advice that any book on worship will usually shut people's mouths. It may spark a question or two, but when it comes to religion in the workplace--people are generally very respecting of that sort of thing there. They don't want to get themselves in trouble. I'd also agree tha...

You want constant, undirected anxiety? Multiple threats to your well-being (physical, mental, emotional) with low to moderate likelihood would do that to you, I don't know why you would want that, though... Watch tons of nightmare fuel late at night, maybe? :/ Although from what you've talked about ...

Why are some many people convinced that not having been diagnosed yet means that they can't possibly have it/it isn't causing them problems? Also, I don't think many people want to have autism. What people really want is an explanation as to why they're so damned different, and why things other peo...

Mild female autistic individual here in need of help. Have had severe migraines off and on for the last month after having a migraine that had many of the visible signs of a stroke. Last Saturday, I went to the ER once for outward signs of a major stroke--turned out to be a migraine. Started on topi...

Since people don't plain say what they're thinking, there's a lot of second guessing that goes on. The purpose of assumption on a social level is an attempt at social efficiency by removing other time-inefficient perspectives. A person grows up being surrounded by stereotypes and is told from people...

That's one of my biggest problems. When I feel like things are organized to a pattern I like, it quickly falls apart since other people say that it doesn't make any sense. When I try to organize things to a pattern prescribed for me, it never works out.

1) What do you experience during eye contact with another? (please go for as much detail as possible) It feels like an instant challenge by a car, flashing bright headlights. However, my family is full of film lovers and amateur actors. When I was in middle school, I worked to overcome that first sh...

Why do people care so much about the causes of autism? Really? Because they want to eliminate us. If you know what causes Autism, you can remove the causes (if the causes are external), or attempt to create a 'cure' - eliminating the existing Autism, then an in utero test, so Autistic babies can be...

I just lived in India for four months, trying to do an ethnography on Indian autistics. Since I was limited to Visag due to particular issues, I couldn't go up to New Delhi for some autism outreach groups I had heard about. I would have gone down to talk to the people at NIMHANS in Bangalore, but no...
