Ah, I knew I had seen a thread about this! Total thread killer here, the NTs are struck dumb by my bluntness, my TMI about volunteering with homeless dogs, my abstract take on everything. It used to bum me out, now I don't care. I mean, I don't go out of my way to do it, but I'm not going to tiptoe ...

There are many ways to meditate. I found the simplest to start was count breaths, to 10 or if you "mess up," i.e., find yourself thinking about something else, start over. The most critical thing is not to judge yourself for doing it "well," people do it for years and still find themselves thinking ...

Wow, sad but fantastic. Thanks for posting!

I remember seeing some footage of him on a roof around that time, in a very well done film, but I don't remeber what it was called or who did it.

I ruined much of my dignity and integrity with a 10-year heroin/coke needle addiction (that's called "snowballing", kids....), for which treatment will reach the 1-year aniversary in 2 weeks, and for which I will have to live with nasty silver-dollar-sized scars and crevices covering my arms and to...

Thanks guys, very helpful! I'm definitely not telling everyone and I don't expect it to always go super well. Just my immediate friends and family (no boyfriend or husband because, well, I have Asperger's! ). I don't want a real dx or to have it on my medical records, and I have zero faith in ...

Any stories/advice? How did it go for you? I find as I tell people, they resist the idea, I guess because I have adjusted so well in so many ways, it's hard to see, and they think it is all "bad." I dread having to go through educating and "convincing" them again and again. It's also about as insult...

I had/am having the same revelation. Yeah, the problems are still there but it is so liberating to KNOW, to have all of the missing pieces of all the stupid situations you couldn't fully figure out, for 36 years in my case. Thank goodness its common for Aspies to look young! That stinks you have all...

As far as the situtaion, I would just steer clear for a while. I HATE doing this, but soemtimes (with NTs mostly I think) it seems like you have no choice but to be "busy" even if you aren't. It's less distasteful to me to keep it generic and not make up stories about what you are "busy" with. Ladde...

Addicted, on a bender this summer for some reason. I'm starting to disgust myself, though, so I think I will be doing something about it soon. I work out a lot so that subsidizes excessive terrible eating and I don't gain wieght more than a pound or two, but I do feel like garbage. I kicked it total...

I'm a lot older and still having some of the same problems- I have no idea what flirting is until it's over (and usually someone else tells me I was doing it). Eye contact with new anyone, forget it. I have noticed also in NT, well, acquaintances, won't say friends, that girls consciously learn how ...

I have one thing to say about nice guys sucking: They can have many skills and, thankfully for us ladies, that can be one of them. As far as that list, I saw few items that I wouldn't even think about because the guy would be history quickly, so I didn't bother reading the rest- certainly would not ...

Honestly, finding out I have AS has been the biggest confidence booster in my life. I don't have to wonder anymore, or doubt or question because I fear those times that trying my best and doing what makes sense to me gets me in trouble when I don't expect it. I mean, that will still happen, but now ...

The idea certainly doesn't appeal to me at all because I don't like to be hurried or shift around once I'm nicely settled in a chair. Ya, I think Aspies just shut down once they're socially pushed beyond a certain level of emotional discomfort. Oh yeah, I forgot, the moving aspect of it was pretty ...

My gawd! I drive past the Craterarian Ginger Roger's Theatre in Medford on my way home from work! I hope you got to go down to Ashland ( it's Medford, Phoenix, Talent then Ashland on the I-5 corridor there) where the oldest Shakesperian Theatre in the US is! There are at least 15 legitimate theatre...

Wow, until I read this, I didn't even realise that my brain was in a process of forgiving myself !? Thank you so much for this insight FirstAndEllen ! 'Welcome! :) Yeah, I mean, that's how it is for me. It was kind of the missing link in so many things. OK, I did think "x" wrong, I understand why n...
