I am already getting ready for spring semester. I am for sure taking 2 classes-Art History and Earth Science. I'm wondering if I should pick up a 3rd. I've transfered from 2 other schools so I have a lot of transfer credits. I'm in my late 20s so I'm considered a non-traditional student. I do not ha...

I made it up to my senior year in college without reading a single textbook. It finally caught up with me then when I had to drop out of Western IL Univ. Later I went back to Community college where I got my AA degree and will be resuming at Northeastern IL Univ in the fall. I've been trying to make...

Is it common for Aspies to struggle with procrastination and getting easily overwhelmed? I'm supposed to be packing up my apartment to move, and every time I try to get myself to do it I just look at the mess everywhere, get overwhelmed(maybe overloaded?) and can't do it. Even though my current cas...

By the way, I was first diagnosed with Aspergers 4 years ago, but it was from an intern at a mental health center, not from anyone that really knew much about Autism. So even though this is the second time I was diagnosed, this most recent diagnosis is a more solid diagnosis that can be backed up wi...

I think those with Autistic Spectrum disorders exhibit symptoms of ADD and ADHD. I was diagnosed as someone with ADD in 1998 at the age of 22 a few years before the first time I was diagnosed with Asperger's in 2001. However, those people with Autism/Asperger's do not have ADD. The symptoms that are...

I have been treated my entire life as someone who was mentally ill. I have been going to a mental health center for 4 years and have been in therapy since the age of 3, when I attended a theraputic nursery school. I was hospitalized twice when I was 13 and 14 years old for severe depression and hav...

I have read in some books about AS that being an elementary school teacher isn't a good career for those on the Autistic Spectrum, because of the unpredictability and the politics dealing with the parents, faculty and school board. But I also am creative and explain things well and see things in a u...

I was diagnosed officially last week from University IL Chicago Autism clinic. I was also diagnosed as having mild Ataxia, which has to do with the brain's ability to deal with balance and coordination. I now go to a mental health center for services but since I'm moving soon I won't be eligible to ...

For awhile my major was web design at the community college, but I had a hard time staying focused in class and when I designed a website for my temple, I had a hard time staying with it-updating it all the time, figuring out what was wrong, etc.

I know as someone with Asperger's that often we don't always know that something we are saying is offensive or hurtful. we often think that as long as we are speaking what we believe as the truth it is OK. I have not made many posts on this board but I can tell you from personal experience with peop...

Yes I had and still have many. Fear of dogs or most animals in general because their behavior is so unpredictable, and my family never had pets because my dad was so highly allergic. Also the barking of the dogs scared me. Fear of noises, definitely-Fire Alarms are the worst, because they're loud, h...

Most Aspies have an interest that they know everything about, forwards, backawards, and everything in between. What's yours? Mine used to be Beanie Babies, where I have over 300. I knew all the values, drove around looking for them in the stores and even got some articles published in Mary Beth's Be...

I just got re-evaluated for Aspergers. I was first diagnosed with ADD in 1998. Then in 2001 I was diagnosed with Aspergers, but the source was a mental health center and the tester was an intern, so the tests were nearly all psychological and they didn't really know a lot about Aspergers. Then, this...

I have been in and out of college for the past 10 years. If you have a documented disability like Aspergers or ADHD, you can often qualify for disability support services. This varies from school to school. Often community colleges have better disability support (I don't know if you have community c...
