Thanks for the replies guys, I know you are correct that there is a certain amount of just having to deal with it, and I know I can do it. I just don't know how to deal with all the background stress it causes me. It's not like I try to freak out over it, but I do. And telling myself not to isn't do...

I've found I do this all the time, my jaw can get really painful! I tried to stop it, but I simply don't even realise I have been doing it! And when I do force myself to stop it feels like my mouth is hanging open, as though clenching it stops it from falling out or something xD its rather odd. I th...

I disclosed to an employer ONCE about my diagnosis. Never again. She immediately started treating me different. She slowed her speech to talk to me, for one, as well as: -being shocked when I dyed my hair (?) -being shocked when I did my makeup nicely (??) -being shocked and condescending when I go...

Sometimes I think I would like this. Just quiet time by myself, get rid of an extra process I have to watch all the time. It can be frustrating though when you do need to communicate. I do go mute when very distressed, but part of me would like to do it without having to be very upset lol.

It's a bit like asking why your cat doesn't like fireworks. They are loud, scary and it's terrifying. Going outside is the same xD. Eating out is often one of the worst things for me, sitting in a very loud place and having to converse with other people, it's hard to enjoy an experience when you fee...

I have this kinda thing quite a lot, the toilet is my refuge too! Often I end up sitting on the bathroom floor rocking backwards and forwards and flapping/tapping until I calm down. I normally go for the disabled toilets for this a bit more privacy, and even better if you have a coat or something yo...

This may be more of a rant than anything else but I don't know what to do. We are running technical interviews at work for prospective employees, and as one of the senior programmers I am expected to run a number of these interviews. Which although I do not like or enjoy them I can cope, I've done e...

The listing of all those things was stressful. I find my senses make these situations very overwhelming. While I have learnt how to deal with public transport I am pretty sure I have been that passenger once or twice. I once got on the wrong train by mistake and the person told me I had to get off a...

This had me thinking too about something that has been ripping me up for my whole life, that I've always been a target for bullies, even now. Who never get punished for bullying, but I get punished if I react. Would you guys say this is just par for the course if you're on the spectrum? If so, myst...

Welp, I had never even heard of PDA but I just scored pretty highly on the test ahaha. Curious, I am sure information like this would have helped my parents dramatically, apparently I was an impossible child. They always said I was a teenager from the age of 2 ahaha.

I like going out alone, when I am all prepared for it it makes me feel very peaceful. I do find the sensory stuff more overwhelming on my own, another person I feel safe with seems to help distract me and helps more than hinders me. I probs count my mum, sister or boyfriend as the only ones who make...

Both my boyfriend and I are autistic and though I don't have violent meltdowns he does. So I would say I have reasonable experience ahah. My main advice is to leave her alone, let her have her moment and understand she has very little control. If she hits anything or risks breaking something she wil...

In my first proper job I was specifically targeted by the boss who was a narcissist because I was socially inept and had been abused in the past. He took advantage of the fact that I couldn't read social cues, was very naive and unable to stand up for myself. He mentally, physically and sexually abu...

It's quite strange to talk about this stuff because I have always been hyper aware to some senses but I have only recently even worked out I am very likely autistic (getting an assessment soon) and it's all kinda fitting into place. Sight: My biggest sense I notice is sensitivity to light, I am incr...
