[quote="Erewhon"]The image below ends with the words ? "Don't be like INTP" These words may sound negative to the INTP to the neurotypic masses. To the INTP itself it sounds positive, at least let me speak for myself, to me it sounds very positive. I myself would like to change t...

Also, what resources (books, research, blogs) helped you and why? Years ago I read some helpful stuff on the topic of "active listening." I don't remember the exact sources I used back then, but, a couple of years ago, I put together this list of links to tutorials on active listening . I...

Its hard to improve, but ive found experience to be the only thing. I tried watching videos on youtube and reading articles but I would not find the videos helpful and tried to implement what I learnt from articles in the wrong way. So just trial and error is the only thing. But, you need to be the...

Loads, I think I automatically made those noises or affirmations when I was listening. I think I overdid it then scaled them back. I've learnt so many things to help that I cant keep track of them all. I can relate to what you're saying. I can definitely see myself going to the other extant and ove...

I've been struggling with socializing. I find myself not understanding what is required of by my social partner. Sometimes I can come off as aloof or disinterested, but it's because I am still trying to assess the request made of me. For example, a friend of mine was telling me a charged story, and ...

Can you pinpoint why you have that fixation? Is there a demand that needs addressing(hungry, tired, frustrated, bored, excited)? Or is it a sensory issue?

*Another note is this fixation OCD related? If it is, then perhaps OCD methods of relief can be applied to the response situation.

"She probably sees autism as a negative thing and thinks she's helping you by questioning the diagnosis. If you think you can get through to her and it's worth the effort in changing her mind, then staying might be good. Otherwise, who knows--she may do more damage. But that's for you to say. ...

I started therapy with an ERP specialist. The woman knows her field but knows little to nothing about autism. I disclosed having autism, and on every occasion, she passively questioned my diagnosis. I told my hubby, whose NT that I wanted to fire her, and he explains that even if I am correct that b...

I've been thinking about this for some time; America's autism research, support, and professionals are behind other western countries. Why is this? I have some theories examples. (1.) American insurance, function, and legalities. The medical model searches for pathologies. Thus the provider must dia...

Emotions don't have boundaries. They just happen. Aspies are good at compartmentalizing. We shoot down our internal experiences because it's easier to cope with life that way. However, emotions are strange sometimes. I think many mentioned in this thread that exercise can cause feelings to surface. ...

I am so tired of being misunderstood. Growing up, I felt that people misread my actions. Therefore, they'd respond to me inaccurately to what I said. Sometimes this could have poor consequences. My facial expression didn't match my claim, so some people assumed I was lying. A friend shared something...

Hi Noca, I've heard that ERP is different than other types of treatments. I find that this type of therapy can be somewhat helpful with facing fears. (This is also what I want to try) I was able to nearly completely break my checking compulsions and as for handwashing/germaphobia, well it's a daily ...

Hey Raven, I appreciate you sharing your experience of going in for OCD therapy. I especially found it helpful when you explained your social interaction and the process leading to the actual appointments. I could see myself dealing with similar predicaments and having difficulties entering the buil...

One thing which has helped me is something I borrowed from zen meditation and whole the zen approach: If I can let myself wind and meander to a place where it’s okay to do a health precaution and also okay not to do it, that’s actually a pretty good place to be. :D Interesting...Finding away to be ...

I'm considering getting OCD treatment. I am going to a support group facilitated by a professional. However, I'd like to hear about other individual experiences in getting help. What type of treatment did you get? How was it conducted, and how did you feel afterward? Do you think AS made it challeng...

What does autism confidence look like?
No right or wrong answer. I'm just curious.
