My dad watches RV Life, a 'reality' TV show where couples switch from traditional homes to RVs. It's interesting, albeit a little boring. Shows like this tend to follow the same sort of outline. In this show, the couple is shown three different RVs and then decides which one they want. However, it s...

This is sort of tangent to your topic, but I'm always interested in the history of medicine. I love to see how diagnostic manuals have changed.

It's interesting to connect the advances in medicine and changes in culture.

Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: POLL Autistic Child or Child with Autism - or I don't care

I personally don't care The responses to this poll have been very interesting. The main feel that I've gotten so far is that either we don't care because why should we care, or we want to be called an Autistic Person because it is part of our identity (and because grammar). The interesting part is ...

Congrats on your diagnosis! Coming from a teen with not a lot of life experience (haha), I would recommend learning about the advanced "rules" of friendships and relationships. Learning about give and take, what constitutes a real relationship, and different definitions helped me to unders...

Here's the only concrete example I can describe well. When I was younger and I went to see the Ice Age movies, they would always start with that little squirrel trying to get an acorn. ((For those who don't know, he would always lose the acorn in the end or get stuck somewhere, but I believe he gets...

I feel like I have a *mild* eidetic memory, but perhaps my ADHD gets in the way. I can script very well. If someone tells me something, no matter how long it is, I can repeat it right back to them. However, I often don't understand what they've said! This was actually very helpful when I got my firs...

Definitely had an eating disorder. Never got treatment specifically for it. Biiiiig mistake on my part, but I'm just so embarrassed of it, and I feel like I've "gotten over it," if that's possible.

This sort of things explains so much of why I've felt like a fraud for a lot of my life, even as a very young child.

High-functioning is a deceptive term because it suggests that you function well, whereas sometimes I can barely function at all. I almost feel like when I tell people this that I'm not fighting for myself. I feel like people have worked so hard to show that people with Autism can do whatever they w...

When I was a child the only unusual health problem I really had was that I got a lot of ear infections, I must have had ear tubes put in every month! And then when I was a teenager I got a really bad mastoid infection and had to have surgery on it at least twice. :( The doctors once said that that ...

How do you do laundry? Seriously, though. I understand the mechanics. 1. Wear your clothes. 2. Put them in the hamper. 3. Take them to the washer. 4. Clean and dry them. But I always either end up with far too much clothes for the washing machine and no clothes in my closet, clean clothes in my hamp...

Often times, I feel like my problems are overlooked because I am intellectually aware of how to solve them, but lack the skills and drive to actually do so. Example 1: I understood how to vacuum my floor and could list off the steps to do so. However, I lacked the upper body strength to hold up a va...
