And I'm dreading the day the US gradually becomes a crazy combination Christian Theocracy/Oligarchy. It's quite strange, on the one hand they losing followers all the time as young people become athiests. Yet the church is growing in power? I don't think it is. It's just that neo-fascist ideology i...

Don't worry, rich people aren't going to hell and neither are poor people. There is no hell. Well as a Christian I believe that all billionaires are going to Hell most likely.Thats just my 2 cents. I feel like they tell everyone this so the people don't take putting them in hell into their own hands.

You can find more interesting music if you look beyond what's popular, but even there it's hard to find stuff that's really new or different with regard to popular genres. It seemed like every decade from the 1920s through the 1990s had distinct sounds. From then on everything sounds similar more-or...

So rich coming from MTG. I just get tired of the constant bad faith. I find it more problematic when sitting politicians make violent jokes, because it escalates animosity in a direct sense when people wielding actual political power start talking violently. Comedians have always made these kinds of...

I think authoritarianism is inevitable when sh** really hits the fan. I don't find this very comforting, but it doesn't seem like human beings are naturally cooperative enough on a large scale to deal with a major crisis. Most people living comfortably in the first world are basically spoiled and ta...

sigh! we seem to go in circles on this forum. like one of ironpony's threads except on steroids. the missing element which everybody on this thread (except Kraichie) has missed is the power differential. Social and institutional power remains in the hands of old white men in courtrooms, boardrooms ...

To whatever extent there are more progressives today who say ill-thought-out things, another factor is the decline of message board forums (like Wrong Planet), due to the rise of massive major social media like Facebook and Twitter. On social media, users can block anyone they disagree with, and ar...

Southern states are not purely conservative. There are congressional districts that can go either way in every state. A true democracy should have uniform standards. It is grossly unfair that people in some urban areas (who generally don’t vote for the GOP) are forced to wait for hours in lines whil...

Trump shouldn't have talked about injecting Clorox into people in order to "clean up" COVID. Trump believed, most of the time, that COVID was a hoax. I wouldn’t ever assume he believes the things he says. His administration was the Big Brother administration. Many elements of "newspe...

US media discussion of the economy is incredibly dumb. The fiscal stimulus done by the federal reserve in 2020 in order to keep the stock market from crashing is part of the reason inflation jumped a year later. The other part is there are still worker shortages due to covid all over the world. Bide...

But I think there is a difference between standing behind your beliefs, and not being okay with other people's beliefs. Can't a person stand behind their beliefs, without feeling they are budging if they don't? There is a difference between being confident and wanting everyone else to think like yo...

But why can't people in America just agree to disagree, when it comes to politics? I'm in Canada for example, and me and my gf and friends all voted differently in the election, but none of us are deciding to leave each other because of that, are make each other our enemies because of that. We just...

What about seat belt laws and requiring children to ride in car seats? What about requiring people to wear clothes in public? It's all so idiotically arbitrary. People also obsess about their own freedom while not ever thinking about the freedom of others to not have to suffer from their dumbassery...

A lot of Democrats will say one thing then do something completely different once in office. The left doesn't feel like they have actual broad representation. It's exactly the same on the right, there's a big chunk of the base that feels repeatedly misled by the mainstream GOP, and hates "RINO...

But why have teams at all though, in politics? Why not just have a system where people elect individuals with no political party ties, and that way, we can avoid this cheer-leader-ish sportsman like contest in the culture? That isn't what it's really about though. People have real differences regar...
