I have had a lot of CBT on the NHS for depression and anxiety prior to being diagnosed with ASC last year. It certainly helped with challenging unhelpful thoughts in a variety of situations but for me I always knew I was trying to 'trick' my brain but my brain was very good at spotting what I was tr...

I got diagnosed last year without any input from my parents (who are in their late 70's). It was not a problem with the diagnosis and they understood that my parents were not likely to remember much, but there is a passing remark in the diagnosis report about them not being involved. I did have all ...

The lower doses are more sedating due to the anti-histamine effect they cause, which goes away at higher doses. All to do with chemistry that I don't understand but my Dr did warn me about it because it is counter intuitive. Quitting after 1 day is a difficult choice to make but sounds like it has n...

Oh yes, the weight gain, forgot about that! I added about 8 kg in the first week. Was constantly hungry. It got better as the dose increased but did not go away.

I have just come off mirtazapine (for treatment resistant depression) because it really did not agree with me at all though I only tried it for about 4 weeks. On the starting dose of 15mg I was really sedated but once it increased to 30mg (after a few days) that went away to some extent. So if it kn...

Hello I can definitely identify with what you are saying. I spent years being able to cope (either through drink or sheer determination to be 'normal') but eventually I could no longer keep coping. I have had three breakdowns over a number of years and finally got diagnosed with ASC this year. I'm n...

Oh, and there is no help or support after your diagnosis, none!

I was not aware of having ASC before December and so it was all a bit of a shock and I am struggling to come to terms with it.

I live in Cheshire and was referred for a diagnosis by my local NHS Mental Heath team in December 2017. I was assessed and diagnosed on 23 March 2018 by Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust. There were no questions about funding- it just happened. But, I had been sectioned in January and spent ...

So today was the telephone assessment with REMPLOY. It was OK and they can help find a Neurodiversity specialist to carry out a workplace assessment to see what adjustments are needed to my role. They can also help with getting Access to Work to contribute. Also, they may be able to arrange training...

I'm not very optimistic about REMPLOY but I guess I can only give it a go and see if they can help.

My social worker told me that she no longer refers people to them because they are hopeless in my area, which filled me with confidence.

They seem to be up and running with an impressive website. I spoke to an adviser and they have put a referral in to DWP for the 6 month Workplace Mental Health support, which should be able to help with sorting out adjustments to my role as well as on-going support once I get back to work for 6 mont...
