Most Linuxen default to bash (although *buntu uses dash which has just enough differences to be annoying) but Linux, along with *bsd, has o...

It's the command line tools available on a standard unix system that make them so valuable. The vast majority of window systems out there are home editions that just do not have anywhere near the capabilities that unix has from the command line. You can install lots of software for windows, but it's...

I got mistaken for a girl all the time when I was a teenager. One time, when I was about 10 I think, my mom couldn't get the haircut lady to understand that I was a boy. The haircutter didn't speak much english and my mom had to take me somewhere else to get them to fix my hair. :D

Unix machines in general are VERY valuable to hackers because they are so powerful, even with a basic install. All of the power is available from the command line, so once they're rooted everything else is cake. Windows just happens to be very easy in comparison to hack. Believe me though, every hac...

I've been using Mandriva for about 10 years now. It was really popular back in the day, and did a lot of things no other distro even attempted. I remember reading in PC Mag or somewhere a list of things linux needed before it could be 'ready' for desktop use, and Mandriva already did all of them. Th...

I've installed mandriva on a three gig harddrive, with plenty of room to spare. When you install it, you have to choose other when it asks about graphical desktops, and then choose LXDE(which is pretty nice).

At least they have hospitals that try to treat people like that. In the states, most psychiatric hospitals just won't accept people who are violent anymore. A lot of people just end up in jail.

True Grit is a movie. You know how some things can be expressed as mathematical or programming functions such as $DO || ! $DO ; try try: command not found (Do or do not, there is no try) Just hoping there's some way to do that with the title of the movie. I have no idea what your trying to do, but ...

Most aspies are introverts and may not display such an immediate reaction that some aspies do. For example, all this sensory overload crap. It just makes me lock up and unable to think, I don't flail around or anything. So for me, it's not that noticeable. But the things add up and can come out in u...

During the winter I have a pair of way oversized cargo pants and if I'm gonna be outside for a while I'll wear sweat pants under them. I'm usually able to get away with wearing short socks that way in the winter. When I was a kid I remember cutting off the stretchy part of my hoodies cause I couldn'...

I noticed for a few weeks when going on zoloft being a little bit out of it for a few hours after taking it. Hard to explain, but you may want to avoid taking it before work until your used to it. After that, just take it however it seems to affect your sleep. I take it a few hours before I go to sl...
