The thing is, I often have relatively short but very intense interests (I call them current obsessions), which last anywhere between a few days and a year. In the past I had things like ship disasters, the pantone scale, different types of chili peppers, eyeshadow palettes, etc. Now I can't stop rea...

Why are people on this forum suddenly so averse to taking an IQ test? I posted one before and it was well received. The only reason I post them is to know where I stand and if it's inflated or not. Because I have been called both a genius and an idiot too many times to attribute any meaning to thes...

I’ve been wondering about Prince Myshkin from Dostoyevsky’s ‘The Idiot’ for a while: I’d have to re-read the novel though... and it’s not really a positive life-affirming depiction of so. Also, Pierre Bezukhov from War and Peace: "Pierre had come just at dinner-time and was sitting awkwardly i...

A few months ago, I went and got a Neuropsychiatric evaluation to confirm my long time suspicion that I am on the spectrum. They concluded that I likely am. A lot of people seem to talk about this experience as being really positive. People feel like they finally have an explanation for all of thei...

I've said it before, but I love the series, so... "L Lawliet", and "Near" from the "Death Note" anime. L, with his preferred sitting posture & particular way of handling objects... Near, especially for his fondness of stacking/lining up objects & stimming by tw...

I have been in trouble a few times in the past for finding something amusing when no one else does. I mean... Well. For example, if I watched someone walk into a door on TV. I would find it funny and my Dad would tell me off saying that the man was hurt. Another scinario was a church leader I know....

I tend to screw up my order when I use the vending machines at my uni, so I am sometimes a bit anxious about it which probably doesn't help with the issue. However, when I was in Japan I loved using the vending machines! I think part of it was because I felt less pressure to get it right - I know it...

Maybe you don't make people angry at all in personal encounters. Maybe they misinterpret your verbal and visual signals because of their ignorance of AS norms? It goes with the territory for most of us, to a greater or lesser degree. It can be confusing and painful if you internalise it as if the w...

It is an issue more on the Internet I suppose than real life, but it does occasionally happen in real life too. For example I comment on a topic somewhere and then people get angry and make things out of what I said that are not there/I didn't mean to say those things at all. It is like I say somet...

I think NTs should be taught to be able to discuss something without getting overly emotional about it. It is not like I have problem with emotions in general, in fact, I express a lot of emotions (I am one of those autistics who jump when they are happy), but when I think about something I can be e...

Hmmm...... I wouldn’t say I know all of the potential sensitivities, and they don’t all have the same ones (that would be too easy  ), but I’ll try to give a list of other common areas I’m aware of: • religious belief, or lack thereof • other people’s driving • sports teams (men particularly) ...

^oh yeah, that’s very NT. When they get like that they’re venting their feelings: the words used are just whatever’s to hand in their memory at that time. They usually calm down after a bit, but best not to correct them when they’re at it: they take it as an attack on their feelings, and thus on th...

How do you hide poor social skills? And at what point does hiding poor social skills become the same as having good social skills? I'm constantly getting the "aw aren't you cute" or "oh, that was awkward" laugh from people over things that I've said, and I never understand why. ...
