Oh, I forgot to say that the only visible trait of PNT is the low index-finger-to-ring-finger-ratio. That was kind of important. :-P I read about a study that showed that the average female ratio was .98, the average male ratio was .96, and the average AS ratio (gender unspecified) was something lik...

I'm fascinated by the repercussions of pre-natal testosterone. Currently, it is believed that a high level of pre-natal testosterone plays a part in left-handedness and many masculine traits, like spacial reasoning and memory (perhaps that's where the good-at-soccer came from?), and logical thinking...

I wouldn't consider myself asexual, as my fantasies do center around physical contact with another person, and I find the idea of physical contact with another person to be arousing. But in practice, I am very uncomfortable with touching, hugging, and even standing too close to someone. I don't purs...

Have any of you had a coworker who had no sense of personal space? I am a very non-physical person, I don't really like hugs or touching or even people standing at all close to me. I work in an office/cubicle situation, and I have a NT coworker who will often come up and stand right behind me, looki...

Collecting shot glasses from around the country, collecting unsharpened pencils, cooking (I called it "experimenting"), The Baby-Sitters Club, Star Trek TNG, and chronic childhood illnesses. I didn't have a chronic childhood illness, but I read up on just about every one in existence.

It's an interesting question. I guess part of it is that scifi fans are, and have been historically, very vocal about their fandom. Someone who is a die-hard scifi fan will not hesitate to share that information with you; in fact, in their very thinking and interacting, they embody the spirit of sci...

I've known aspies that were extremely socially competitive, though I myself am not. I don't think there's anything in the universal qualities of Asperger's that would directly affect whether one is socially competitive or not, like it affects whether one is socially...social...partyingness...can't t...

I get anal about the oddest assortment of things. I'll be fine wearing something that looks more like Japanese street fashion than anything else, or completely does not match at all, but put a tiny stain on my shirt, or a small wet spot, or if the shirt fits too tight, and I cannot get myself to lea...

I'm the same way sometimes. I've gotten better at simply not replying at all to things like this, because the only thing I can think of to say is something I'm afraid they'll take as aggressive. I think part of it is that NTs often actually don't see the aggression in each other's comments. I am oft...

I'm like this, but not about people. I tend to get like this about music, movies, and topics of interest. I have a problem liking things that are popular, because I don't like to share my interests with other people. It feels like if they like something that's important to me, they're trying to encr...

I get stuck reading Wikipedia without even realizing I'm doing it. I'll go from article to article until I hit a dead end or am just too tired to continue. When I was in elementary school, I was obsessed with reading books about chronic diseases, and in middle school I would spend hours reading from...

As I was reading your post, it was almost as if I had written it myself, especially the second part. I agree that the whole toning it down thing is the reason a lot of Aspies seem to be more arrogant. We're just not that great at faking humility like other people do.

What are people's thoughts on the whole trying to be more neurotypical in order to "succeed" in social situations and jobs? I know that's an awkwardly worded question, but I can't figure out how to phrase what I'm wondering. I learned in high school how to appropriately fake many of the necessary ac...
