I need to take him to the Dr. I guess and get another opinion on meds to see if anything will help. Seems like he's been tested enough and to enough Dr's. They all have such different opinions, and sometimes it's hard to decide what's best for him.

Exercise is a great idea, sometimes it's hard to get him off his butt. He's a gamer and would prefer to play computer games all day. He does like to ride his bike though, maybe I can get him to do that. Thanks! :D

Thanks all for the suggestions. I will check into the melatonin. I am more in favor of finding natural alternatives, but will not turn down meds if they help him. Such a hard thing to find the right balance. This morning when I got him up he said he slept well and had no problems, maybe I should kee...

Hello all, Been awhile, amazingly busy! I may have posted before about sleep problems, can't remember, but my son has difficulty sleeping. He will either lie awake for hours before he can fall asleelp, or he will zonk right out and then wake up in the middle of the night for a couple of hours before...

13 yo son was on Ritalin, but I didn't like the side effects he was having. I am uncomfortable at this time trying more drugs, we have been looking into other avenues. Right now we are trying a combination of liquid vitamins, those seem to take the edge off of the ADHD comorbid disorder.

My son constantly talks to himself. Sometimes he's reciting favorite movie passages, sometimes he's carrying on a conversation with himself. I try to ignore it.

Our son lies a lot. I try to remind him about deposits in his "trust bank" but he doesn't either care, or hopes that he can get away with it for as long as possible. Some of the things that he says he truly believes. Sometimes he wants to sound smarter, and therefore makes up things to go along with...

I missed it and I'm bummed. Will it be repeated? I was going to have my sister in law TIVO it for me, then I forgot to ask her. What did I miss?

the problem with us is that 13 YO son thinks he's ready to drive now. His dad lets him drive the pickup in the field when they are harvesting varied veggies (hobby farm) and has let him drive the tractor. He (husband) thinks I worry to much. I try to tell him that our son isn't like him at 10 years ...

I should be more positive. It's two years until he's legally able to drive, and hopefully he will improve by then. I'm still sure he won't have a license until he's at LEAST 16 though.

I sometimes think I'll hyperventilate if I think of my 13 yo AS son driving in a few years. He has absolutely no road sense. I am sure that he will not get his license as young as some of his peers will.

you didn't mention it, but does your son have an IEP with the school? Also I can't tell where you live, but here in the states the schools are legally bound to have Individualized Education plans for those diagnosed with special needs. My son has had one in the past, but now that we have a diagnosis...

thanks for your opinions and experience. Best wishes to you and to your son. I appreciate being a member of these forums, there aren't any support groups where I am I don't think, and it's helpful to talk to others who have children going through the same things my son is, and also AS adults who hav...

alrighty then :) Yes he was on ritalin, but I didn't like the side effects. Sweaty palms. racing heart, decreased appetite, up and down, up and down attention levels, even the extended release didn't do that much for him. I have begun to seek out some other alternatives, and for now he seems to be d...
