Forum: General Autism Discussion   Topic: When did you learn social status existed?

I think I’ve understood social status since I was a kid but I always laughed at it. A person is a person of value whether they’re a cleaner or an astronaut. But I understand how society labels you based on how your dress or your job title. I’ve been so many different things in my life. And it’s hila...

I’m a mess. How do I make them stop? The worst thing is I can literally spend 8 or 9 hours talking like a broken record about the same problem. Pulling it to pieces without ever solving it. This has happened to me ever since I was a child. Sometimes I call helplines but that only makes it worse. Mos...

We have the skills to appear normal but we still think differently. Also, my emotions and meltdowns are off the chart when I’m super stressed. But I’ve never had them in public. I’ve waited to get into the car to go nuts. In my opinion, being high functioning has stopped me from getting help. I was ...

I’ve been homeless on and off and I’ve currently had no fixed address for over 6 months. It doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is the reason I’m homeless is because of extreme poverty and that’s due to not being able to hold down a job. I’m fairly young and wondering how do I make it to 65 so I can ...

A doctor or a physiotherapist. I got the grades to get into my chosen degree at university. But after dropping out 3 seperate times, I was broken and burnt out. Now I can’t even hold down a job as a cleaner. I feel like all the knowledge in my head about anatomy, physiology and biology is a waste. I...

Your problem is not with work, it's with f***wit people. And f***wit people will piss you off even if you're a millionaire and don't need to work. So I could say find another job, but chances are as soon as you find an awesome positive place with great peeps, within a year a new f***wit recruit wil...

Definitely you were the victim of sexual abuse and sexual assault. Those memories are coming back to you for a reason. However painful they are, please don’t deny them and try and make peace with what happened. If it means counselling, then do it. If it means pressing charges, then do it. Don’t tell...

I don’t think people really read my posts or understand what I’m saying in previous sections, so I’m posting here. Does anyone ever feel like they can stop being overly emotional about verbal comments people say. I’m talking hurtful things. I can’t make it stop and sometimes it feels so uncomfortabl...

Yep! This is a good way of putting it. And in the end, they seem to have the stamina to play the long game while we are the ones who burn out. *sigh*

Just don’t buy in a s**thole location otherwise you’re f****d. The thing that I’ve learnt about buying a home is that renters have more rights than home owners, so if you’re renting and you own a property as an investment, that’s a way better option than buying a place only to be driven out of it by...

Welcome to my world. I dumbed my resume down so much, removed all the nationally recognised awards that I have and removed all my decent jobs and just made up a resume consisting of the shittiest jobs I could think of, in order to score a cleaning job. But I lasted 2 days. Not because the work was h...

Haha! After lasting 2 days at my new job, I think I'm about to be! To be honest I think it's easier to live in poverty with no job than it is to get your hopes up that you can put yourself through the hell and stress of holding down a job. I don't get it. I wish I was dead some days.

Hi, I recently got a job and called in "sick" today. I don't want to continue. If someone at work is lazy, unproductive, gets in my way or is rude or makes derogatory comments about others, I just ignore it or give some sort of generic non committal response and move on. However, I feel th...

Shhhh! Don't tell the vegans! They think they're doing amazing on their bowls of sugar and refined white rice.
