I had an eating disorder, but other than that I am now at a healthy weight. I was reading about eating disorders being common among people with ASD, but I'm not sure the person was talking about the same types of eating disorders. I was diagnosed with anorexia, and it wasn't that much about food ave...

I tried to do an internet search and couldn't come up with anything about where the quote came from. :( I searched through the "Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome" (I have a pdf) and it is for sure not in that book. I did find this list of AS quotes, though. There are some good ones in ...

I think I'm in a very similar boat to you, socialising takes a lot of effort for me, I try to be very friendly to people, I believe I come across as friendly, I smile lots(even though I'm not necessarily smiling inside), probably too much, and I think if the person I'm chatting to isn't full of smi...

I was going to say that I really dislike wearing gloves, then I remembered that I wear nitrile gloves every day at work. As long as my hands aren't too sweaty while I am wearing them, I logically like that they protect me from the chemicals and stuff that I work with. I have a pair of giant fingerle...

I've also been worried about this criterion, since I'm going to speak with a psychologist in about a week about whether or not I am on the spectrum. I have a job, can pay bills, and live in a city. Here's a list of 'impairments' I have to present to the psychologist. I'll let you guys know what she ...

Does anyone have specific 'masking' skills that cause them distress? I regularly use 'masking' skills to get by at work and in public. I'm considering letting go of some of those habits after reading the study below, which suggests that masking or camouflaging autistic traits could lead to other men...

Agender friend here! I used to identify on the binary (FTM) because I didn't realize there was an in-between space (yay, gender is a spectrum). I have also heard people use the term "autigender," which means that they feel their gender non-conformity is directly related to their ASD. I ide...

Hi! I identify with being the quiet one throughout most of my grade school/high school years. I wasn't really shy, per se, but I definitely wasn't interested in the more social aspects of school. I was very concerned with pleasing others around me in order to get them to like me. I think this was a ...

I don't HATE snow, but I have a lot of problems with it. It's beautiful, but I can't stand the texture (sensory issues) when walking through powdery snow. *shudders* I also don't like driving in it. I like that it sometimes cancels school or work. I'm in the PNW and we had a couple of winter storms ...

People on the spectrum can have difficulty with the self-regulation of emotion and/or sensory input. They also have a higher chance of having comorbid ADD/ADHD. So, it could be one or the other...or both. Probably not helpful, but there it is. Yeah, self-regulation of emotion. I think that's it. I ...

Is there such a thing as autistic excitability/hyperactivity (not related to ADHD)? My psychiatrist mentioned something like that when I told her I think I have ASD. I have a bipolar 2 diagnosis (from her), and I wonder if the 'hypomanic' episodes she thought I was having were just me being an excit...

I'm not sure how I feel about trying to associate autism with ethnicity, but I'm a sucker for statistics, so here are mine (I did one of those genetic tests - not sure why they don't add up to 100%):

42% British/Irish
39% German
4% Scandinavian
>1% Ashkenazi Jewish, Spanish, SE African

While I would not have considered myself a "psychic vampire", I can relate to the feeling of otherness compared to most people. In fact, I still feel something other than human even now (though what that would be I don't know) Not any more or less than human, just different. I wasn't offi...
