I confirmed that I shouldn’t have caffeine after noon on weekdays. It’s 12:25 EST and I’m waiting for my melatonin to kick in. The wife is watching SportsCenter, which is going to make it hard to sleep. |

I developed early, and despite popular misconceptions, big breasts can be really annoying, especially when you’re a socially awkward teenage girl who isn’t particularly pretty otherwise and has the misfortune of being in a school full of misogynistic male teachers. My American history teacher made c... |

I’ve definitely had “kindred spirits” experiences like you described, but never tied it in with autism or other neurodiversity. I wish I did have a better sense of that sort of thing. |

I know animals have always gravitated toward me, even feral ones or ones that are generally shy or outright unfriendly with new people. When I worked nights at a women’s treatment center, the resident cat would see my car come in, walk over to where I parked, then follow me inside the building. |

I liked it a little too well. Fortunately I found my two recovery programs and am coming up on seven years sober. |

1. You have to give to get. 2. You are the common thread in all your interactions with people. If you’re constantly having problems connecting to people, take a hard look at yourself and see what needs to change. I’ve had to do this a few times, and I’m working on it right now again. |

I agree that we need to take care of each other to the best of our ability to get through this. So far I’m still able to go to work (as far as I know), but my wife’s college has gone online only and our recovery meetings have mostly closed temporarily. I’m using Facebook Messenger and texting a lot.... |

You are not alone. We’re all here for you. As someone in recovery, I can tell you that dealing with stress without drinking or using drugs is really hard, but it can be done and it gets easier. Oh wow, can I relate to this. (I posted a thread in the Haven on a similar topic not long ago.) I generally get along better with other ND folks . . . Depending on how their symptoms manifest themselves. If they’re similar to me (I have days where I struggle with executive functioning but generally ... |

Following because I am also curious. My wife gets VA and SSDI benefits, and we’ve discussed the possibility of her going to grad school in Canada. |

Why is it your business whether someone is faking ASD or not? That’s between them and their conscience. Obviously it’s a problem if they’re faking to get benefits, but unless you’re their caseworker, it’s not your problem. |

I don’t have a problem with noises like chewing, sucking something through a straw, etc. (Actually, I find the sound of chewing something crunchy rather pleasant.) But I can’t stand humming or whistling, especially if it’s out of tune. And certain people’s voices set me off. I have a male coworker w... |

Being patient with myself and others. Asking for help. Not automatically leaping to the worst case scenario. Believing that everyone is doing the best they can, me included. Taking time to relax, and not feeling guilty about it. |

I can only think of three good reasons to keep my Facebook: 1. An easy way to keep up with my activist and recovery circles 2. A few groups I enjoy (specifically cat and dog lover groups, fandom groups, and a humor group) 3. Messenger, which I’ve been using a lot, checking on my vulnerable friends a... |

No, I love the emotional and social aspects of being an adult. The physical aspects, not so much. Perimenopause is as bad as puberty, I have some mild arthritis (mostly because of my weight), and I might need glasses again after not having them for 20-plus years. I do miss my old idealism, though. I... |

I’ve worked in retail, food service, and telesales, so I know what thankless, frustrating jobs they are. I empathize with salespeople and in some industries, I salute them because I could never do it long-term. |
