Yes, my parents remember my childhood differently than I do. This is a problem for neurotypicals, too, and so really needn't pertain to your diagnosis. I second the white noise generator: fan, filter, etc.

Nice to know that, while we generally cannot change the behavior of others, we can adapt our own response. I find this concept empowering.
