hmmm... *ruminates for a while*... it is entirely within the realms of possibility that my own perceptions have been distorted somewhat due to emotion lol ... more than possible... but i wonder if it's just his own quirk. i think he's used to people responding in a particular way to him, and if he e... |

yeh i guess that's kinda of confusing, sorry!! ! k: he ignores me a lot of the time. Like, just walk past and not even see me. Other times though he'll be waving frantically to try and get my attention... and I've noticed times when he'll do something (he's very *animated*) and then he'll glance acr... |

K, there's this guy I like. But he's kinda really popular and outgoing.... he's also friendly, but like me, seems unwilling to start conversations. Unfortunately, that is the one thing I can't do, is initiate interaction. If someone else starts it, I'm fine. I'm not really shy at all, I just don't k... |

Hi! I'm currently re-making my website for the millionth time, and looking for some sort of inspiration. I'm not entirely sure what I want to put on my webbie... it's mostly just as an avenue for self-expression I s'pose, but I do want to make it interesting. Also, if ur in the mood, I would totes l... |

I am in a classroom that is dead silent but for the occasional click of keys... the flick of paper... and the INCESSANT bloody sound of someone bloody breathing WAY TOO LOUD!! ! It's driving me insane! I'm not saying a person shouldn't breathe, but when it's that loud... can you think of anything th... |

My brain works just like it should, even if that may be different than other people. Then maybe you are not a true Aspie. There are certain characteristics that define a person with Asperger's, and one them is having a particular pattern of brain dysfunction. (And let me just remind you that where ... |

I wish I was normal. Normal people can still be clever, yeah? And they can interact with each other. I'm not as "different" as some aspies. I don't think I have a singular interest, my interests change like the wind. I don't have a hobby (well, that requires money, and we ain't got none) but even so... |

Disorder: a disruption of normal physical or mental functions
I think that is quite an apt description, actually. Our brains don't work as they should - some parts work at decreased or non-existent rates, other parts work much harder to compensate. It is disordered. |

To me, that comes too close to mind-control and takes away the effort that persons with autism make in pursuing their recovery. I don't think so. The brain is an interesting thing. You can consciously make the effort to improve it, but I personally would rather take certain steps just to help that ... |

"AS doesn't have a physical grounding - God made me this way!" Why do so many AS revolt against the idea that their condition is based in the brain, and is caused by brain dysfunction? Why do they think that it could not possibly be caused by chemical imabalances? That it can't be corrected? The res... |

Ok: this is how I've always felt. I am a normal person inside. Maybe even NT. But there is something around me - like a thick, black sheet - that cuts me off from the other NT's. And all they see is the AS. They don't see me, real me, normal me. Things I try to say come out scrambled and wrong. I sa... |

MysteryFan, that could be true, but I don't think that would apply for people like me. I am not as close to Autism on the spectrum, and so I feel a greater desire to be normal. And so it is jsut stressful. I don't like to be alone, I just feel lonely. But then when I'm with people it's a drain, and ... |

Quote: Autism is acquired, usually, on the whole, for the most part, the majority, at 2-3 years old ABRUPTLY. A great change from prior state to autism!
Is it acquired, or just noticeable a that age? How could you acquire something like a brain disorder? |

Yes, I see what you're saying, but autism is not classified under mental disorder It is a brain disorder. Large amounts of the AS brain simply don't work, or function at levels that are severely inadequate. Other parts of the brain work harder to compensate, and that explains why so many AS have hi... |

Autism simply isn't like depression. It's not as if there is a chemical imbalance (like depression) that suppresses us. It's how our brains are wired, even if that can be disabling. I beg to disagree. There is compelling evidence to suggest that a lot of it is chemical. My brother is undergoing tre... |
