I've worked in IT , as have several of my friends. Cybersecurity and network admin is a dwindling field that is more and more being outsourced, and a lot of people are losing jobs over it. Virtualization and AI are making the process so much easier than previously, that now rather than having an in-... |

But remember, Nobel Prize winners come from any school. If ivy league schools were really so much better in result, you'd think more prize winners would be from those ivy league schools - but they're not. Nobel Prize winners are just as likely to be from a state college as from an ivy league univer... |

Does an Ivy League degree get stale? I don't think so. If you have one, even that is decades old, it still draws attention. Sort of like a red dress among dozens of black suits. What this means is that you may be able to gain the experience you need after you get that degree to get the job you want... |

Again, for the sake of clarity: The article indicates that having an Ivy League degree can open doors, by proxy of being an Ivy-League degree - but NOT because the recruiter or hiring manager is ALSO a student of that same school. So it's still not a fraternal brotherhood decision, it's a "you ... |

Also, I remember my classmates. Not all of them were the kinda person I'd wanna hire, despite having graduated. I don't know that I'd hire someone just cos they went to the same school as me. Fraternity bonds are stronger than that. Internships are often given to frat brothers/sisters. A law firm w... |

A degree from a big-name school like Harvard might get you in the door, but if you aren't any good at what you're doing, they will likely show you right back out the door. Getting the job is not the same as keeping the job. Yeah, I think there's been a number of threads over the years on this topic... |

^^^ All true. Also the employment landscape is fast changing, especially in areas around infotech. A Harvard graduate whose only exposure is to lecturers who might never have worked in the private sector and textbooks which are already out of date are hardly going to get recruiters in tech companie... |

It has been my experience, that experience without degrees or certificates, carries more weight than degrees or certificates without experience - even if the degree is relevant. Not all degrees are created equal. Depends on the job. A lot of professions have accreditation bodies and you need a basi... |

I have had this most of my life. Will be lying totally fine, and for no reason will just violently stiffen up. I can feel it building up in a similar manner as you've described. Only at night in bed when trying to go to sleep. Doesn't happen all the time, but happens enough that it's a thing that ha... |

How would suggest getting a job with no experience and that is not a McJob or volunteering or a unpaid internship? Hi, I'm 52 and have an MBA that I can't use for health reasons, but I did work for years in different sectors. We don't climb stairs by starting at the middle step. We start from the f... |

Movies and TV are not real life. The people in them aren't acting that way cos that's how people act - they're acting that way cos that's how they're written and directed to act. Things work out the way they do because the script says so, not cos that's how reality actually works. Using it as a tool... |

Seems to me, the reason so many Gen-Z have degrees but no jobs is, they got the degree, but have no work experience, and expect to get jobs they're not qualified for. So even fully qualified graduates need retraining. Even in infotech and engineering. [FIXED] College graduates still need training. ... |

It has been my experience that more often than not, it's not the degree that's worthless.

How would suggest getting a job with no experience and that is not a McJob or volunteering or a unpaid internship? I wouldn't. I'd absolutely suggest getting a mcjob, volunteering, or internships, to demonstrate that you can even hold a job to begin with. You act like it's beneath you, but if you c... |
